Let me just add that fuel-cut is the way the stock rev limiter works, and it's the most common method for a launch control rev limiter.

With spark cut, fuel continues to spray, and it accumulates in the exhaust tract. When combustion resumes, the hot exhaust gas tends to ignite the fuel droplets in the exhaust pipes, creating pops and bangs, and occasionally breaking things.
