I mean no disrespect to either of you suggesting this method, but don't you think that:
a) If I call and tell GA the truth, they'll replace it because the piece is obviously of poor quality, and they should stand behind their work.
b) If I try your method and GA decide to be sticklers and scrutinize my claim, I could get caught and be SOL or at the very least they drag the process out while they 'review' it.
c) There's no way around it - what you're suggesting is fraud. I'm not a goody two-shoes, but I'd only go that way if they already screwed with me/forced my hand, and even then two wrongs don't make a right, and in this case I'd be the first Wrong.
All that said, I thought PPG (now PGW) was one of the two safe bets, so I think I just got a bad piece and they'll recognize that and swap it out.
