Didn't want to leave this thread unsolved. So before I even started working on the car I had it taken to a reputable shop to replace the timing belt and some other small things. The problem ended up being that one of my intake cams had been positioned incorrectly, so once I fixed that it fired up immediately. Fortunately I didn't do anything wrong (I was worried about messing up since this is my first swap). Anyway, good luck to you guys with any projects and always double check the work if you have someone else do anything to your car.
