This was already answered by Mulder above, I will expand upon his statement for clarity. Powertrain for warranty purposes (5yr/60k) refers to internally lubricated parts. The clutch (and related parts such as the throwout bearing) is a wear item and only covered by the basic initial warranty (3yr/36k). The OP is at 40k miles and is therefore past the 3yr/36k mile warranty on wear items.
