I don't think there's anything wrong with slotting as long as it's done right. Sure it will chew up pads faster, but you can't put a price on the ability to stop quickly.

Under the SEMA! link there was a tidbit at the end about an Australian company which was setting up to distribute aftermarket rotors in the USA. Costs were pretty reasonable as I remember. If you find out more about them please let us know.
