Many many people replace just front pads. You will most likely not even notice the slight bias change.

Kind of hard to justify spending more $$$ on stock pads, even though they are 100% ok for daily driving.
What are you paying more $$$ for? Even Metal Masters are 10x better than stock and cost what, 1/3-1/2 the price?
Unless you're getting stock pads REALLY cheap for some reason, don't spend more money on an inferior pad.

REX8 is right
The weakest link in the stock brakes are the pads. Almost any cheap semi-metallic pad is a better choice unless you truly drive your WRX like most people drive Camry's.
Drive a WRX with good brakes - you will understand pretty darn quickly.
