There is a difference between shifter height and throw. They blend as the shifter assembly angles but you can cut and thread the stock shifter to *kinda* see how a super short shifter would feel.


Example of short throw vs short shifter:
Real standard race cars have a long shifter but short throw. So they can keep their hands around steering wheel level and just bump the shifter to change gears.
Poor man's short shifter is take a stock part, chop down most of it, and thread the knob back on. Short height but still have the same throw distance to change gears. Throw is effectively reduced by geometry but point is still valid.
