Question Attn: SYMS GT - ??? about turbo, grille, and suspension stuff

SYMS GT - Man, it's been a while since I checked your mod list. I've always loved the look of your car, but you've done a heckuva lot to it since the last time I looked at it.

OK, so, tell me about the turbo kit. How is the intercooler set up? Did you just remove the cover plate from the hood scoop, or did you get the flow director for the Euro/Japanese turbo models? Or is it a front mount that I just can't see in the pics? Did you have any problems fitting the intercooler into the car? How is the FMU set up (what step up ratio is it using)? Did the FMU come with the ASR kit? And who is ASR, anyway?

I wasn't sure I understood what you meant in the "Posted Pics" thread when you were talking about the aftermarket grille you have. What is the grille actually designed to fit, and what kind of modifications did you have to make to get it to fit?

What size Speed-bleeders are you using front and rear?

Last but not least, what Konis are you running, and with what springs? I wasn't aware Koni had anything for our cars.

Sweet car, sorry for all the questions!

Sorry for the delay Pat. Between family beeing in town and 'life' I don't always check the boards.
To start off the turbo kit is from ASR, http:/asr-us.com The kit uses a top mounted Spearco intercooler which needed some modification to fit beings the Legacy has a tighter engine bay. Yes all I did was remove the block-off plate under the scoop for now.
In terms of everything else I'd say ASR is on par with other kits out there. Nothing is a 'true' direct bolt in. Other parts needed a little massaging for fitment, but who's counting; taken w/a grain of salt. Details can be given upon request.
Currently I'm only running ~6psi from the stage2 kit. The FMU(5:1) is currently on back order, so another route may be taken, Bell Engineering. That and I'm waiting upon deliver of my 7-9psi wastegate spring. With all said and done the car is running trouble free.
As for power... . The power comes on smooth and linear to the engines stock curve. No spikes/surges, just smooth power from ~2800rpm on. Don't get me wrong you can tell it's there, it's just not like an on/off switch. Perfect for roadcourse!! #'s to come in near future.

The grill is from 'Air Real'. What I was talking about was the shape of the grill from '95-'97 and late '97-'99 grills. If you were to look at both versions you will see the early version doesn't have a recession were the grill extents into the bumber. The grill I received was for the early version Legacy BD model. So about an inch of fiberglass was added to the base of the grill to fill the gap.

Russel SpeedBleeders 3956 & 3957

Lastly the KONI's are actually from my old BF Legacy. They're interchangable. KONI sells their parts as cartridge replacements. You have to cut off the top portion of your OEM struts and reemove the guts. Then drop in the cartridge and bolt anchor. Definatly earier ways out there now. Use H&R Springs hands down... KONI's were designed w/30% stiffer rate; H&R. Let me know if you go this route.

I think that's about it. Pics soon...

Matt - Thanks for the feedback. That's interesting about the Konis - I'd definitely agree that there are easier ways of doing things!

As for the grill, it sounds like it would be a direct fit on my '97, right? I'll have to take a closer look at mine and see if I can find a newer one ('98/99) to compare it to.
