Default Tuning Help

Hi,

I am runing a hydra EMS and Greddy e-01 boost controller. Basically, I am having a problem with what seems like detonation.

In 2nd and 3rd gear I am hitting about 13.x psi (based on hydra map sensor) and getting knock marks (3, 4, 5 etc) WAY above my 1.15 knock threshold at about 5700-5900rpm. The ems will pull the up to the maximum timing which is currently set to 8 degrees

The strange thing is in 4th gear and above the engine is perfectly quiet and stays below the 1.15 knock threshold at the 13 - 15 psi range...

I have checked AFs and they are 10.9-11s throughout and the timing was reduced by 1 degree for that particulart rpm band/boost area on the map, but the problem still persists.

Any ideas? Thanks

Might be false knock. Lower the boost a couple psi and check it again. The engine noise should be about the same, but the detonation (if there was any) should decrease.

^^ Thanks

But why would the car knock under less load in gears 2 and 3 and not at gear 4 where the load is higher?

It shouldn't. Lower the boost, and if the "knock" doesn't go away, then it's not really knock, but engine noise.

good point ill run it to wastegate to see what it "sounds" like... I guess the problem is that if it is engine noise i have to raise my knock line, but the ECU will never be able to sense acutal knock to retard timing if it does occur

1.15v seems like a pretty low knock threshold for 5900 rpm. Can you screen shot your 2d graph and post it up? Engine noise is pretty loud at that rpm.

i will get a screenshot up soon. its on my other Laptop. 1.15 is ok i think because the noise drops down after 6000 -7800rpm

Note: i ran the car off wastegate and there is no "knock" I have looked at my maps and AFR, boost and timing etc seem ok. it jsut knocks for no reason it looks like. I lowered teh timing on those loadpoints by 2 deg and raised the afrs so we'll see.
