**Guys it has come to our attention that some less than experienced installers are dropping in camshafts without setting the valvelash and checking the cam journals. YOU CAN'T DO THIS!! MUST CHECK / SET FOR PROPER FITMENT!!

Can these cams be used with USDM STi valvetrain with a 7500RPM limit?

I know how to check valvelash but what do you mean by checking the journals?

Hi Frank,

Unfortunately these cams are not compatible with the USDM STI heads unless you disable the pickup sensor on the heads & AVCS. You will have to change out the cam gear also. As for the journals, sometimes our customers are failing to check for proper journal clearance, overtightening the journals, no oiling etc. This causes the cams not to rotate properly or scores the cams.

I'm using the STi motor in a WRX so I have already made the pick-up change. Will the STi valvesprings be good enough?

While the STI springs / valvetrain does accomodate for a higher lift camshaft than the WRX, the valvetrain is also designed for a lower revving engine / valvetrain. I would recommend using an aftermarket valvetrain such as the Helix valvetrain for the camshafts. If you are planning to keep your revs low and to stay with the stock valvetrain, please remember to check your valvelash clearances, etc.

Could I use valvesprings from another company? I'd rather not spend $450 on valvesprings if I could use Crower or DPR springs instead.

That would work fine; you just need to make sure that the valve train you're using is ideal for the Helix cams.
