Rally Stuff JWRC: Very lucky man

I searched, so sorry if it's a WTLW (used the terms: lucky man wrc).

Here's a JWRC event where a safety marshall got very lucky when a Suzuki crashed.

nice member number, but IMO I think he wouldn't have died... the tree didn't break, he was behind the tree

No, I know for a fact the tree wouldn't break since it contacted near the stump. I was thinking the guy is lucky that he was behind the tree and not in front of it, and the JWRC Suzuki plowed into the tree.

Man that was close, a few inches to the side and the car would've flipped around the tree and creamed him.

He wasn't lucky.. he was smart. He wasn't behind that tree by chance.

The camera-person was lucky (and brave).

This is why I refuse to stand on the outside of corners, even as a marshal.

Once something very similar almost happened to me in San Remo. Bruno Thiry wanted to kill me the same way but in the last second he changed his mind, came out from the ditch and managed to avoid both me and the tree. I wasn't sure though that it would have held since he was drifting towards us around 80 kph. Anyway I cheered up the Italian fans and got a free cigarette to cool down...

I was "Cheif of Spectator Safety" at a rally sprint once. I did not know that I was going to be placed in that position, and for this very reason I was pissed. I did it anyway because the event wouldn't have happened if I refused, but it was a gamble. The spectators ignored my tape and orders to move, wandered around the place, stood in dumb spots, and everyone got lucky.

I knew what the video was from the description, remembered it from years ago, yet I HAD to watch it again for some reason...

Pretty freaky in a way.

I had something similar, though it was at in autox in the DFW area. Throttle got stuck on a car and it came right towards me. Luckily I was behind some of those large steel posts used to stop cars from driving into places. I did almost the same type of back peddle to the side and back.
