Talking Please post your comments on my skidplates HERE!

Hey all,

Just wanted to know if anyone had any questions/comments/problems/compliments on my (GooseMan/Lachute) skidplates...

WRX model and the GC8 model.

Anyone? I'd like some feedback!

Thanks!

I have a question. Do your skidplates fit over borla headers on GC8's?

Sort of......

I sold one to someone on the board a while ago, to test fit it to the Borla headers.

The skidplates fit between the headers, not over them. You would have to grind the holes to make them a little larger, and add some spacers at the rear of the plate (a piece of square tubing, or some washers or something). I think it was Paul Sakai.

I've also made a HUGE 1/4" rally plate for a customer with Borla headers. It was 3' x 4' and HEAVY, but indestructible! You can contact d00f for comments on that one.

Anything else?

LUME--try too shoot him an e-mail. I made him a custom 1/4" rally plate, pretty indestructible stuff! I think Lachute still has the other one (I made two ). If thats what youre looking for.......

Stu-- I'll be at Lachute next weekend FOR SURE. I'll be installing a new suspension. I know I know...bad time of the year for shocks, but good deal!

Still waiting. I'll call Brullen again today to see what the
schedule is. By next weekend you mean the 8th? I should
have it for sure by then, if it is the 8th and you want to do
it then, it is fine by me. I hear ya on the suspension thing,
I just bought some Eibach springs becuase they were a
good deal - I am going to wait for spring to put them on.

I'll send you a PM after I get in touch with Brullen.

Gonna start to get into serious rallying and was interested about these?

Where do I find about price, where to get from, just all the info?

Also does anyone have a pic of it on and off the car?

GooseMan

I just had the Brullen Headers installed yesterday night (and they're great!!but that is for another post.) We put the skid plate on and it fit, but it was close, to close less than an eigth. and when the engine turns it might have touched. So Richard put some spacer washers in and the space seemed like it would do. I have it on right now and haven't noticed any knocking, I'll probaly get longer bolts and 1/2" spacers to give it nice clearence.
It was only one tube that was close on the passanger side, the bottom on the tube could have hit the top on the plate>>
Once I get the spacers right I'll just weld them to the plate so they don't fall off during install and removal.

What is the size of bolts you use??? I forget?

DubbleURX (I just figured out you screenname... ) -- There is more info here. The WRX plates cover pretty much the whole engine bay, up to the tranny. They go from the font bumper, to about 3' back, towards the tranny. And they are approx. 28" wide....so it covers a lot of area.

DOM-Thats good to hear! Hope you enjoy those headers!

As for the plate, I'm surprised it fits! Good ol' GooseMan quality, eh? The bolts are M8-1.25 bolts..just get some longer ones....1.5" maybe? Good luck! Take a pic!

I installed skid plate on my WRX wagon. Very satisfied.
Plate fits perfectly, I used bolts from stock skid plate, had to find some bolts to screw plate at the back, they wasn’t supplied with plate I used big washers, because holes in the plate pretty big.
I am not sure if its a quality of aluminum, but its seems to me its too soft, and bolts even with washers trying to sink into hole.
Whole installation took me about 20 min.
No vibration, very good quality product.
But I have a question: would drain valve fit under the plate?

If you're talking about oil drain valve like the fumoto, it won't. Not unless you stack several washers on top of the plates.

The aluminum is 3003 grade 3/16" thick. Yeah, its a little soft, but thats done for a few reasons.

One: is that its cheaper, cheaper for me, and cheaper for you. I could use some 6006 T6 aluminum, but its literally double the price of this one, and I'd have to add around $50 to the price of the plate!

Two: 3003 is soft, and it bends slightly when hit. This is good, because if it was a stronger, stiffer aluminum, it may crack under a hard hit. Now, for day to day use, Rall-X or TSD rallies, 3003 is more than enough. So far, I havent had any complaints 6006 T6 would really be for professional rally cars and or for racing applications

But, if anyone wants, custom plates can be made! Just ask!

Gooseman: The M8-1.25 bolts you specify should fit snugley in the slots of the skid plate, correct? I haven't actually installed mine yet but I do remember when I bought the bolts and looked at the slots the slots were substantially bigger than the bolts.

Could you shed some light on this?

Thanks

Mark

PS I bought one of the "specials" directly from you.
