Talking need advise

I saw tonight that my local subaru dealer has a 91 legacy turbo for sale. I'm looking for a race car and this one interest me. I know quite a lot about it(we used to own one) but I'd like to know if there is something special I should look at? I know on ours the MAF was gone how do I check if its good?? We also had trouble with the automatic tranny but this one is manual. Thanks

Hmmm Manual Turbo? Get it looked at by a mechanic and buy it. Those things are rare and they can be made to move FAST.

I went to the dealership and talked to a saleperson, he told me the car was 3900$CAN, it has 288000km on the odometer, and that the only problem he knew was the ABS light was on. To fix the ABS it`ll cost approximatly 300$CAN. I`m gonna go check it out closer Monday after my exams. I find the price a bit steep considering the mileage.

That is some high mileage, but the price is actually decent. The book value is certainly a lot higher, even with mileage considered.

5MT Turbos are rare, and those engines will last a LONG time if cared for. Turbo rebuilds are cheap, usually US$150-400, and other nitpicky things occasionally go out, but all of the expensive parts tend to last a long time, and you can usually buy new, improved parts meant for the Impreza to replace what broke.

What kind of "racing" are you going to get into, autocrossing?

check for oil leaks... (peek under the car)

and check the axles...(turn the wheel to full lock and do circles... first to the right, then to the left... you WILL KNOW if something is not "right")

get the Vin and run it through Subaru to see what issues have come up with the car...

rare find you have there!
got some go-go power for a bigger car too!!

if it's a solid car, it could be a great purchase!
good luck

I've also heard that the turbos on these cars usually last around 75,000 miles or so... hmm.... Mine lasted until 150,000 and it still should be kicking arse...
