Post Have a Question?

I have a 99 5-speed TS and I recently found that when I drive the car in the morning the the shifting feels very "notchy", as in it doesn't feel very smooth when I shift from 1st to 2nd. (I'm not talking about clutch, I talking about moving the stick from 1st to 2nd) Is that normal? If it isn't normal, got any ideas why it is doing this?
The weird thing is that it goes away after I drive for like 20 minutes.

Probably just needs to warm up.

You might consider switching to a synthetic tranny fluid. It should smooth things out.

I think whats happening is that in the morning, the tranny fluid is drained to the bottom of the pan. That means the gears are not lubed. You have to warm it up and get the gears lubed by driving really slow for a couple of minutes, so that it won't be so notchy. Synthetic will cetainly help as it clings on to the gears during overnight. Red Line is the choice for tranny oil.
