Default Calling all 08 WRX/STI owners!

Lets share some random findings on the 08 WRX and STIs:

- I'm 6'0" and the headroom is ridiculous. I think they could have lowered the roof 4 inches and i'd be fine. My gf looks like a freaking midget in the passenger seat.
-Rear seat legroom is also ridiculous.
-The suspension is MUCH softer now compared to the 07 and below STI. It feels more like the Spec B (which it is in a sense)
-The windows go up and down REALLY fast
-Tranny whine is apparent. It sounds like straight-cut gears.
-My brakes squeal when stopping in reverse
-During shipment, about 30 grasshoppers decided to crawl up and die in between the rear glass and the rear spoiler.
-The stock stereo still sucks
-The seats aren't as bad as I thought. The leg bolsters suck ass but the side bolsters and the alcantara do a good job so far. Mind you i'm 240lbs and have yet to take this car to the track.
-There are too many f-ing STI logos inside. The glowing one by the shifter is rice.

I just picked up my 08 STI and have a little over 200 miles on it.

I agree, the headroom in these cars is ridiculous. I wish they would have actually made it a little lower, but I think a surplus of headroom is a pretty small gripe.

I know, but I had no choice... they had the ONLY Dark Gray base model for the next 4 weeks

At least they agreed to match the price I got from South Coast Subaru (which is a fing awesome dealership)

I'm short (5'6") and the headroom is way too big
I hated the way the stock shifter felt, so I got rid of that
Stock wheels are horrid, got rid of them.
I hated the stock suspension, so I replaced it with Cuscos and sways
I needed moar power, so I added some more
I don't like the stereo, So I need to get rid of that.

Now, I am completely happy with the car

I'm also short, and my g/f is even shorter so it looks like she's sinking into the seat. The car is taller than GD Impreza but seating position is lower. So low that when I look over at the driver's side mirror, I'm not looking down onto it, I'm looking over at it. Compared to other cars in my family, it seems like the mirror is eye level.

I like the black interior/roof liner and side panels
agreed, to much red glowing badges and stuff in the interior lol.
suspension feels softer but the STi handling is still there.
When the CEL comes on, the car retards to {I} mode

the STi's have a black roof liner? I might have to swap mine out for one of those, or at least paint mine... The dyed roof liners that some people did on their older wrx's looked awesome.

You sure you bought the car you really want/like?? The new STI is a good inbetween car not too hard and not too soft. If you wanted something more hardcore you should've went with the previous model STIs or got an EVO. Also since it's a sports car the focus went towards performance not sound IMHO.

wat?

I said FINDINGS, not COMPLAINTS. Big difference.

99% of the problems with the new car can be fixed with mods. I'm modding it anyways so as long as the drivetrain doesn't blow then i'm good.

08 Premium/Hatch. It is my first Subaru and overall i'm happy with the car. Picked it for the space/funtionability of the car.

I'm 6'4" and have some tall friends so lovin' the headroom.
Like the feel of the seats. STI seats are better.
Agree the suspension is soft.

I notice the headroom every day. The greenhouse looks distinctly bubble-like. Even the rear window bulges outward (in my sedan). You could play baseball on the windshield.

There is some whine but I don't think its the transmission. If it's the turbo it's really loud.

The base stereo isn't bad for OEM. There's a ton of midbass.

The seats (in my WRX) are nice until you compare them to other OEM sport seats. There's a RSX at work which I walk past every day, and it's seats are similar, but much more aggressively bolstered.

I like the OEM wheels. I will paint them gold.

I also like the stubby antenna.

I just put on my helmet and tested for fit... HOLY CRAP I still have like 3" of room. I am hitting the B-pillar though, but nothing surprising.

Transmission whine is VERY loud especially in 2nd.
Paint chipping isn't as bad as I thought.
Brake noise went away after 1k miles (yay!)
Love the radio function on steering wheel.

I love mine. Moved from 05 LGT Limited to 08 STI hatch. Hubby has 07 STI. He's also 6'3" and fits in the 08 STI with his helmet on (we race). I am 5'2" and sit as close the steering wheel as possible, obviously, headroom is not an issue for me. I love the black headliner and A pillars, interior is very much like my LGT and the alcantra seats, door pads and center console lid are a nice touch. Yes, the STI badges are a bit overdone and I especially despise the horn button. Suspension is softer, but the car take corners and slaloms like a champ, effortlessly. I'm sure some sways will only make it better and having actual cargo space is just fantastic. and yes, I too love the radio controls on the steering wheel!

I freakin hate the stock stereo stereo with a passion. I don't want 2 x 12" subs or anything, but I would like to listen to music while driving with the windows down. I had a better stereo when I was 16 driving my 88 Suzuki Samurai. Yeah I know, it was my first car.

There is nothing wrong with the Headroom , fit a Cage ,wear a Helmet and you will be happy that it has so much Headroom.
