Default What is typically lost with standalone?

I'm planning to have a new Ray Hall Plug and Play Vi-PEC system installed week after next.

I occurred to me that aside from loss of cruise control, I haven't been able to confirm or deny whether ABS or EBD, or DCCD will be lost or affected.

Any input appreciated.

I can't say with certainty about the newer cars, but with one of the higher end stand alones, Autronic SM4, LinkPlus G3, etc, you should be able to retain a lot if not most of the stock functionality.....as far as I know, when I do the swap in my legacy, I should be able to keep the cruise as long as I wire up an rpm signal to the cruise computer.

Obviously the newer cars are more complicated, so you just need to take some time looking at the wiring diagrams and determine what inputs the different control units utilize.

The only system you'll loose is the Cruise Control because the DBW cars don't have a seperate cruise control module like the cable throttled cars do. The ABS and EBD (Both controlled in the ABS Pump) only share a VSS signal with the ECU from what I remember as well as the DCCD.

Any particular reason you chose such an unpopular ecu?

I like the look of the feature list for the Vi-PEC, any it's backed by Ray Hall who knows what a standlone should do.

Zornorph - Please post your experience with the setup.

As everyone says, trust your tuner. He prefers it over his former favorite, Autronic. I wouldn't call it unpopular, I'd say new and lesser known. However, it does have Ray Hall's name on it, and my tuner has been using the ecu with good success on pro rally cars and other race applications.
I admit some concern, but I have been assured by people I trust that this is not "bleeding edge" technology.

Also, it does have a knock control and works directly with the DBW, which although the autronic can be made to do it requires a $700 additional module and apparently does not work flawlessly.

That's the way to do it if they will be doing your tuning. Good luck with it!!!!

Ya know....WOT is pretty good for cruise control too!

Thanks Jay - the tune is going to be after Maine Forest Rally - He's got to tune cars for that. After that, It's time to start saving for a Justice Racing longblock, cuz I'm sure the stocker will let go sooner or later. I need to start researching heads.
