Default new guy with a 99LGT and questions

Whats up all? I'm Ryan, live in NY, have a 99 GT sedan white with black leather, 5 spd, etc. Don't know much about what options were available on that trim.. anyway here's a pic.

It's a good car, runs well, needs struts bad, and the antenna is soon to be swapped out too, can't stand the knocking. I'm going to do struts relatively soon, and try to replace the steering shaft that I found to be the cause of it knocking during a turn. Also want to say thanks for the pn#'s on the antenna kit, and also KYB struts. I'm not a noob to working on cars, I also have a 89 Grand Prix that I don't drive much, been a toy for a while and don't have the heart to sell it. Here's a pic of that.

Anyway, just thought I'd say hello. One thing I will ask if there are any expected hang ups when replacing struts, should I be adding in new bushings, or mounts? I will be using ebay GR2's because they are cheap and actually I run them on the GP as well. Maybe I missed it, but if I have specific questions about my car, do I need to post in another spot or here? Thanks for the info thus far, I will be posting if I have questions.

www.cars101.com is an invaluable help to knowing the trim levels.

For strut replacement advice, it's basically the same as the Impreza.
I would replace the top-hats for all four struts, and if you're planning on lowering it, do it now rather than again later.

Car looks super clean, those fogs look brand new!

what determines SUS? sport utility sedan I assume? It's a 30th anniversary GT model with the 2.5L engine. Has about 80k miles on it, and the drivers fog is new, I just replaced that and the fascia a couple of weeks ago. The passenger side isn't quite as new but still in good shape. It was a 1 owner when I bought it.

Nope. This is a very rare 1999 30th Anniversary Subaru Legacy GT Limited, and from the photographs it appears to be in excellent condition.

If it were a Legacy SUS it would have two tone paint, a raised suspension and 15 inch diameter wheels. Speaking of those wheels... those are the 16 inch, 18-spoke "snowflake" style wheels in polished aluminum alloy with gold paint between the spokes. These wheels were ONLY available on the 1999 model year Limiteds. Any other year and these wheels would have been PAINTED a dull grey "silver" colour.

Being a 30th Anniversary Limited, I suspect it very likely has an automatic transmission.

These cars are exceptionally rare.

I would dearly love to see the first 12 digits of your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) .

EDIT: Its a 5 speed !!! Awesome !!! That makes it even rarer.

These cars typically have a special airfoil on the drivers side windshield wiper that I don't see in your photo. Maybe its just the photograph or my failing eyesight.

Other than the heated front passenger seats and heated mirrors (the "cold weather package"), in block electrical coolant heater, dealer installed "sub-woofer", "premium" speakers, a cargo net for the trunk, rear differential and front oil pan skid plates... I can't, off the top of my head, think of many optional equipment choices. The Limiteds were really intended to include all the popular options a "normal" person might want, so all thats left are a few specialty options that only a very few buyers might select.

The "Double DIN" OEM radio (made by Panisonic) has AM/FM, Cassette tape, a single Compact Disk player, two channel "Weather band" and a clock.

The imitation plastic faux wood interior trim is all over the interior and is something most owners either love, or hate.
I believe the center faux wood trim (around the centre air vents) is unique to the limiteds.

The body colour lower body cladding (rocker pannels, etc...) is the first tip off that this car is a "Limited".

SUS were only offered auto too btw...

A limited carries leather and it's basically the only thing that seperates it from a GT model, and the lower bumpers and sideskirts like stated above^^^.

The first thing you need to do it take the engine out and do a little work...HG before they let go internally on you and take out your rod bearings (been there and 1000 miles from home) you also need to do wp and timing belt.

Basically it's a great car, really fun to drive and with a little help from Subaru enthusiasts it can be anything you want it to be...

Basically you found the rarest of rare legacy's FYI. I struggled to find a GT in a 5pd. You found a 30th anniversity (rare package) 5sp (rare in legs) a BD (sedan rather rare) white isn't as common as black and finally the kicker on it all you got a limited with all those features...there might be 3 or these in the country left...

I don't believe it has the cold weather package because I don't have heated seats or mirrors, but I don't miss them too badly.

The air foil is there but broke off this winter during a storm, I think it was just too cold and the plastic was brittle. I will be replacing that shortly, as well as the struts, but was hoping to avoid doing the mounts. I am trying to avoid springs as well as I'd like to keep it where it is, roads are rough enough around here I don't want to scrape up the front end.

Now I'm not sure about the HG's, I don't know if they were done or not under warranty or recall, but it now has ~80k + or - a few hundred. When I purchased the car the original dealer stated that the timing belt was changed at 44k miles or something strange, so I don't know if the HG's were done or not. I am going to take a look at it sometime soon and give it a once over, due for NYS inspection here shortly so I may have to do struts first. I cannot confirm the skid plates right now, but the dealer installed sub is not there as there are two knock out plates in tact in the trunk, but the cargo net is there. It's a great car, get's good mileage and is strong in the snow as well. Would like to put wider tires on it to give it a better looking stance but right now I'm stuck.

And as far as rarity goes, I've seen several of these in black in the area with gold wheels, all on the road though. Thanks for the comments everyone.
