Mike asked, "does the gauge light up with the parking lights?"

Yes, it will light up and dim with the factory wiring connection behind the radio.

Mechanical means that the gauge gets the reading mechanically. So that means with a boost gauge that you actually have to run the vacuum line to the back of the gauge.

With an electrical gauge you will get a sensor that you mount in the engine bay, then run a wire to the back of the gauge.

For lighting, if one gauge in the line lights up, then the rest of them probably do. With the Autometer Phantom's you can have them light up in red or green depending on which cover you use.

Thumbs up

A mechanical fuel pressure gauge has actual fuel going in a line into the interior of the car to the gauge. An electrical fuel pressure gauge has fuel going to a line in the engine compartment to a sensor thats linked up to the gauge in the interior. In other words don't get a mechanical fuel pressure gauge if you want to see it while driving.

Hey Kris, thanks for the EGT.

Question

do they make a pillar pods yet? i was thinking of getting it mounted on the steering wheel but it kinda blocks the tach.
my car would look kinda funny with just a single gauge on the a pillar.

maybe i'll do boost gauge, air/fuel ratio, and the third one i am unsure of. any suggestions on the 3rd one?

i plan on getting the boost gauge first.

I suggest Voltage since it is the easiest to install. I can't seem to order the EGT gauge. It shows up as not orderable at Schmucks.

They look good except for the person that trimmed the console cut it crooked. Damn, not only is he colorblind but he's also uncoordinated.

Cool

I can't say because Kris might get mad at me.

You don't need a clock. Just get some clock at Walmart.

Eric did you try NAPA?

You can relocate the clock to the ashtray or the space next to the cupholder. Yes, they make A-pillar pods in all configurations.

Oil pressure is pretty simple to install too. I bought extra adapter bungs/wells and crush washers if anyone wants them for their gauges. I'm probably giong to add a couple more gauges. Boost on the left column A/F and Fuel pressure. Here is a trick 52mm gauge pod that I have but haven't used:

Does anyone notice anything wrong with Eric's gauges?

I cannot tell unless I am in the car looking really hard, can you?

Free installation and he still bitches....

But I think they look good, and all three of his actually work!

You can mount one gauge on the steering column, just move it to the left side so all it blocks is your gas and temp gauge. The 2 1/16" gauge does not really block all that much. The extra large gauge I have does block a bit, but will work better on the left side.

Did I already post this? NAPA sucks. I went there today and tried to see about some Autometer gauges. The moron behind the counter said they don't sell any. I insisted till he looked at some catalog on the side. The sorry part about it is that they didnt even have the autometer catalog in this century. Fats Performance only caters to dumbestics and gave me a look of confusion when I said EGT gauge. They tried to cover it up by saying they can special order it. Hey mofo, why waste my time ordering from you morons when I can do it myself.

Bill got his from CarParts.com. Always look for an on-line coupons before you order from them though. We got free shipping on our order.

So you mean to tell me FATS (Foreign Auto Truck) specializies in domestic cars? That seems weird.

Question

how much does an autometer boost gauge cost? does it include the mounting stuff and the lines?

where would a good place be to mount the gauge? i was thinking about the A-Pillar or on the steering column.

The cost will depend on the size you want. Kris just ordered a 2 1/16 Autometer gauge and he can tell you how much he paid. No mounting hardware or lines. You have to buy the gauge housing separate. If you are going with a gauge cup then mount it on the left side so it doesn't block the tach. Who cares about the gauges on the left? Autometer has both two and three gauge A-pillar pods. Those both look nice and are unobtrusive.
