Default Two Questions on LudeSPEED Turbo Kit: Strut Tower & Octane Grade

Okay, after talking with Tom, I would like to post these 2 questions here, so hopefully someone can help out a fellow i-clubber:

1)Will the Cusco Front Strut Tower Brace (Aluminum one) clear the Spearco TMIC?

If not (even with reverse mount), then anyone knows any strut tower that will clear it?

2)Is it a good idea to use 93 Octane (92-94) after turbo is being installed?

Thanks in advance for any info

1 - Doubtful, I haven't really seen one that cleared an RS-T intercooler well yet.

2 - It's a bad idea NOT to run 93.

The Whiteline bar clears IIRC. There are a few that pass over the throttle body, instead of getting close to the firewall. It might fit if you reverse mount it, but I'm not sure.

Like Nick said, you shouldn't run anything less than 93.

I didn't think you were able to reverse mount strut bars, the holes will not line up, I'm not posotive though. the GAB one is the one that goes towards the front of the car, no sure who sells those anymore, Minnam used to, but they split up.

Benson,
Whats up with the parallel fuel mod that Tom is going to be selling with his kits? I think some other guys here might be interested in these as well!

Jewbaru is correct... There is a whiteline, seen here... Strut Tower Bar - Front - Whiteline , that is designed for use with the TMIC.

There are two whiteline bars, so be sure you get the one that goes over the throttle body to be sure you won't have clearance problems.

Funny, when I received the Cusco from iSR, it was used and config as reverse mount! I had to reassemble it to go toward the firewall; reminds me Pam still hasn't refunded some of my money due to sending me the used part...damn! OH well, I just have to get a torque wrench and try reverse mount test it

kastle, Jewbaru: The Whiteline will clear, even for the LudeSPEED? I mean the setup (piping location) may be a bit different though...anyone uses this?

Kyle: I spoke with Tom and he said it's basically a prototype; he will send that to me along with the kit. If he's making any changes in the future, he will send me the upgrade part as well Paul (hayscoob) spoke to Tom too, and I think Tom is getting this mod to him (maybe no charge), so he can fix up his motor. Tom said this mod is VERY important, so one cyclinder won't seriouly lean out under boost...sound scary. I am glad to be a guinea pig on this

After I tested my Cusco, I will give you guys a follow up, if that's ok?!

Hmmmm...so high octane is recommended or is required?

It passes over the TB so there should be no problems clearing the IC... As long as the IC dimensions are less than 20w x 4h x 6w

Benson,

You may not be able to clear the charge pipe with that strut tower bar. Take a look at the pic below. The elbow for the charge pipe comming from the turbo to the intercooler may be in the way. If you get one and it fits let me know, I will get one too. I also must say that octane boost works. It help reduce the pinging I had. Still didn't save my motor though. Should be done by the end of April. We will see....

Paul,
Maybe this pic will make you to reconsider Other than the IC, the setup looks very familiar to the LudeSPEED; I had this for awhile, but didn't know which company makes this; now I do.

Hey Paul...if you really want it, how about this? I will order one, and then try to see if my Cusco will fit by reverse mounting it...if it fits, then I just sell you the Whiteline. Otherwise, I will install the Whiteline and if this fit, I can confirm it with ya, so you can get one yourself?

Sounds good?

Anyway, I am using 92/93 ever since I got my car, but thought maybe it's a good idea to go regular or not; well no change then

Paul,
An update: The reverse mounting method won't work, so I have to get Whiteline one. As soon as I tried it along with the LudeSPEED, I will let you know ok?

Looks like my Cusco is up for sale soon I love that it works so good with my baby.

Damn...PDM did not reply to me, no answer and no email reply. Anyone knows where can I buy this strut tower, and fast?!

Paul: I can't help ya, if I can't get that to mount If you know where I can buy one, be sure to let me know...PM me if necessary.

Thanks!

hey guys

just have the stage 2 kit installed a few days ago....i am running super rich with the RRFPR a little from max.....it seems to run fine....amaaaaazzingly i have yet to hear knocking or detination....my engine is just bogging a lot during idle....i am running 4.4lbs the boost don't seem to go past 3lbs. on my boost gauge...which is good for now....i am currently not running any electronics....i am having my ITC installed as soon as i get it from the mail...i figure i shouldn't push my luck....does anyone know if knocking is really soft....i rolled up my window, A/C off, radio off and still can't hear anything....i can hear the stuff inside my glove compartment rattleing....but no knocking....i went all the way just under redline and still nothing...1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear.....too good to be true?? my EGT is about 8000-13000...it rises when i boost....my RRFPR is super loud...sounds like a household water pipe.....i got a CEL light though...but that could be running too rich....i have to tune my RRFPR....Tom's kit is great and so is his service....i would recommend him and this kit.....

Paul,
Bummer...I hate to say this, but I have had terrible experience with iSR; Pam still hasn't refunded the partial amount to me, when she sent me an used Cusco Strut Tower. It's been like more than half a year, so I don't know if it's a good idea to buy another thing off them.
Any tip Paul?

Btw, that damn Subaruparts still hasn't sent me the ACT...Paul, can you get one for me fast? If so, I will just cancel that order (it's $400 + shipping!) They raised the price all of a sudden!

Benson,

Call me at work. I will price one out for you over the phone. It shouldn't take more than a day for it to arrive to me. Once I have it, I will forward it to you. Are you getting a lighter flywheel too? Let me know, I can hook you up with an Exedy flywheel for the RS too. It worked great on my car till I smoked my motor...7070-546-8585. Call early 9am to 3 pm Pacific time.

As far as ISR is concerned? Well let's just say, they are slow but I had no problems with them yet. Pam is just to damn busy. She needs help to back up the flow of business they have. I think things are better there now that they have moved. I think there is a different guy handling the internet sales and shipping dept. Perhaps if you call them up and speak to them again, they can get the old problems worked out with you and at the same time, order up the brace. SPO may be another place to try...just a thought.

Paul,
Amazingly the clutch appeared at my door (nope, they did charge me first)! No email, even customer service said it could have been sent out already but no tracking info yet; then same day it arrived! Although the airborne guy was nice enough to throw the kit right on my door, loud enough for me to hear something has come. Sorry to bug you on that.
Now for iSR, I better call them up since they don't reply emails anymore (at least to me)...hehe it's like I am from the debt-collecting company or some sort.
PDM just replied saying their strut towers are backordered for a *few* weeks...maybe that's why it's $50 cheaper than iSR quoted.
I want a flywheel, but not with my UR pulley at the same time, that's a big no no for me. If it's ~15lbs then I may reconsider. Problem is that I have to spend money on a J&S knock sensor set and the so-expensive Brullen setup from Larry; then brake lines and all kinds of fluids. Oh well, this project is so expensive after I decided not to go with my previous setup; damn!
Hmmm, so you got your fuel rail mod from Tom yet? Btw, the IC is backordered; sigh, just what I needed.

It took me a couple of tries to get through to Don at PDM racing. Give him another try he has great prices on the whiteline bars.

AaronB: Don replied to me already, but the problem is that the strut tower is backordered for a few weeks...i-clubbers sure know where to buy inexpensive parts I really want everything done at the same time as my turbo installation.

Yes I'm going to say any curved strut bar will clear and here is how....

Ok SYMS will clear if its reversed mounted I'm almost 99% sure...BUT even reverse mounted, my TEC got in the way so I reversed reverse mounted my bar I swap the mounting points to the other side of the car and drilled new holes...I know how miles of room...sorry no pics
