Is there a website that has MY00 EJ 251 piston specs? My engine code is EJ251 (EJ25D for MY98). "1" probably denotes the single over head cams. I need this info ASAP becaus I'm going through some problems with JE pistons. They made a set of 8:1 compression ratio pistons for me but they don't fit. JE is saying that because the compression ratio is so low, there aren't enough clearance between the top of the stock rod and bottom of the pistons. I think that's a BS and JE is screwing with me. Anyone one have 8:1 pistons in their 00 RS? Any ideas how I can prove JE wrong and have thjem make me a new set of pistons?

How don't they fit? I know that MY00-01 rods seem to be longer them MY98 rods (not sure about MY99's though... haven't played with that combo yet). There really isn't a lot of room between the wrist end of the rod and the underside of the piston face.

I'm not using the 98 rods. The stock 00 rod does not fit on the JE pistons because the wrist pin is too high. Basically the top of the rod does not clear the underside of the piston.

I have a set of used JE low Compression pistons (8.5:1) for sale with brand new rings for $450. This was for my MY99 2.5 RS with stock bore.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. They didn't tell me that the rods won't fit. There is no material to shave off the rod. We already considered that.
TaiChih, I'm not sure if 99 pistons will fit on 00 RS. If you send me the pistons first so I can see if they fit or not, then I will buy them from you if they fit. |

It's not that I don't trust anyone, It'll be a waste of money for shipping just to see if they'l fit or not. There are easier ways of figuring this out. Actually, if you want, you can speak with Rallispec/ Dave, Greg or Andy. They have the pistons and you can verify with them if they will fit your motor with standard bore size.

251, and 253 are phase 2 engines (25D phase 1). The parts for these engines should be interchangable. If you have found one, you should have the specs for the other. I will look through my "pile" and see what I find. JE should know better than build a "bad" piston. Then actually SEND it to a customer is ridiculas.
Do you know the actual specs of the pistons (measured them and compare to what you ordered)? are they 8:1 and the rods just don't fit, or are all the specs just screwed up compared to what you ordered? Maybe you got a set of pistons from an apprentice.Did they tell you when you ordered them that the ratio you wanted would be hard to do? If they didn't, send them back. They sent you trash, not what should be expected from JE. If they did, they still should not have sent them, but it would be nice if you can blame them ENTIRELY, and not have any directed back. I think that the factory service manuals should have that info as well. I have the engine section for the EZ30, and I am thinking that I have seen the piston specs in there somewhere. cheeRS, Greg |

When I placed the order initially, I asked for MY00 RS 8:1 CR pistons with everything else stock. They sent me MY98 pistons at first so I sent them back. Then I sent them a sample pistons to make correct set of pistons. JE said because I'm asking for 8:1 CR, not 8.5:1, it's going to be a custom job. Now, because my pistons are custom made, they are saying that it is not their fault that the rods don't fit. I've spoken with many people but nobody thinks .5 CR difference will make the rods don't fit. I did give JE my sample piston in the beginning. They should have verified the clearance for the rods with the stock pistons I sent them. I'm going to give JE another call tomorrow but their attitude was pretty firm that it was not their fault so I expect the same from them...

I might need the 8.5:1 pistons if he doesn't take them... My old phase II block needs pistons, and your MY99 pistons should be fine.
right now I am running MY98 pistons with 15cc dish and phase I head gasket with MY99 shortblock and MY00 heads This is about a 9.4:1 CR right now.Larry |

BTW: My #4 cylinder bore may need 0.020 over or more - kinda scoured up a bit... Stock bore pistons may be too small.
