And I am here to show you guys how to do things.
hahahaBut seriously, I need a tiny bit of assistance with registering my STI here in lovely BC. A local buddy of mine has said that I may get into some sort of issue getting a safety due to the tints on my front windows. I bought the car as a lease return, and while you would think that means it is all stock, I have found that the car did see some alterations. The tints are rather dark so I do not know if they are original. Any insight? And this might sound trivial, but are there any auto glass places to avoid? I've got a long crack running along the bottom of my windshield and was planning on going to Crystal Glass, as it looks like it's the closest. OH! And I can register the car, get plates and insurance at any one of these "Autoplan" places I see all over? And the rates are all the same no matter where I go? Thanks yous guys. |

Cops will pull you over and give you a fix it ticket for the front tint. It's a nono in Vancouver.
Glass places? Stick with any ICBC accredited places and you'll be fine. Yup, insurance brokers (autoplans) are your one stop shop for everything you need for your car. Rates are based on your driving history so it'll pretty much be the same everywhere. 3rd party comprehensive will vary if you look to go with private carriers (Family insurance, Canadian Direct, CNS, Etc) Not sure how it works insuring vehicles from out of province but I'm sure it's straight forward enough for the insurance broker. |

Welcome, as a fellow Ontario transplant I can say you won't regret the move.
As stated, if you don't want any issues with the inspection have the tint removed from the front windows (back is fine) and have the windshield fixed. Like slowguy said, insurance will be the same price anywhere here unless you go with a private company for the optional coverange in which case you might save $20 ![]() |

Thanks a lot guys, that helps me out. I never liked the dark tinting, but removing it is a pain in my tush.
Yeah Kevin, it definitely seems like everyone here is from somewhere else! |

If your going to be living here for any long period of time, you will need to get an out of province inspection. To pass that you need your front tint removed and your cracked windsheild replaced. Speedy and Crystal auto glass are who I would use (depending on location)
Once you have your inspection done you can insure the vehicle here. You can & will get ticketed by the po for the tint (I had them rip my tint off on the side of the road) Welcome to BC, where the grass is green and the beer is cold ![]() |

Loomin might chime in to clarify, but word on the street is canadian direct etc. tend to cheap out on car repairs if (knock on wood) anything were to happen to your ride, as compared to ICBC.
as for glass places, stay away from Broco on Brunette in Coquitlam. their work is sloppy at best. |

Thanks guys! I'm surprised anyone got the CB4 reference. I have thrown a few molotov cocktails, and have met a few people worth stabbing. But I assure you my record is clean. Crystal Glass on 6th street fixed me up (and cheap) and now I'm all registered and plated in BC!
Now...on that note. I was just joking about telling you guys how to do things, but auto insurance, bros you're doing it wrong. After bumping up my deductibles a bit it's still $3600/yr! WTFMFBWISYF?! Even after I prove no claims for eight years and get the 40% off, that's still $700/yr more than what I was paying! Ugh, now I'm thinking I really need a job. Now that's a depressing thought!Gas, yes, too expensive. However there's no ethanol free 94 in Ontario. Though I did take a pic of a gas station (don't laugh) in Calgary on the way over here. 88.9/L ![]() First-second-third-nations? Well, I'll try and make a meet night, so be sure to tell all your female friends and relatives that I'm available. Tonight however I'm spoken for. And already mildly incapacitated! ![]() |
