Default vf39 need help!

Hey, I purchased this Vf39 a few days ago from a guy out of Tacoma Washington and he was nice enough to meet me half way...

it was pouring down down out side and it was really hard to see anything 1 because of the rain and 2 because of the overcast and stupid me didnt think to bring a flash light...

I spin the turbine and the bearings seem fine a little side to side/ up and down shaft play and a little in and out but over all I thought it was (ok) then I got home and was able to get a better look at the turbo,,

sorry in advance for the pics... (iPhone)

you'll notice the discoloration of the turbine fin here;

and the bent fins here;

and here you'll see the tell tale waste gate crack but also a hairline crack that goes along the top corner of the exhaust houseing toward the turbine,

(sorry the pic is taken upside down for better lighting so the crack is on the bottom of the pic)

Forget about the cracks, those fins look really bad. I woulnd't risk using that, at best it will make poor peak boost.

Maybe you should call him out as a scammer if he won't make it right for you. For what you paid the turbo should at least work. Installing a turbo with bent fins could cost you a motor.

Why, the guy met him half way and the op had all of the opportunity to inspect the turbo. There is a list of mistakes the op did and it is his fault and not the sellers.

1) OP said the turbo had shaft play and in and out movement. Thats a red flag right away without looking at the fins.
2) The OP did not look at the fins at all before giving the seller the money. If it was raining and dark sit in a car with lights on and take a look.
3) Bought off craigslist

If i was the seller i would not give you any money back. Should have done more research before buying a used turbo.

FYI the movement in and out means the bearings are shoot. The turbo is trash or will be in 100mi. Next time be more careful. If i may ask how much did u pay for it?

Hey, sorry man that sucks ... but at the same time it's not all his fault. He knowingly sold you a **** turbo, but you had the opportunity to inspect it before paying. I say get half your money back if thats all hes offering and chalk it up to a lesson learned.

Is it a subaru bolt on turbo or a turbo off a EVO, b/c that will not fit you. If it is off the EVO then you will spend much more money moddign your car to fit that bitch on.

Please do research before buying anything.
