I got my flamesuit on, so feel free to unleash the Kraken.
I'm wondering if it will be safe to grind off a little bit of the caliper for clearance? Cliff's: I'm running summer tires on my rpf1s, which are no longer going to cut it in the snowy/slushy world I live in right now. I have no money for new wheels right now, and probably not for another 2 months. Now here's the issue, the caliper very, very slightly rubs on the inside of the wheel. Its very slight, I've taken pictures of both the wheel and the caliper. It's worse under braking than regular driving (I drove it for less than 1/4 mile before removing). Would I run into any issues if I ran a grinder of it to skim off a little metal in the areas its rubbing? I have Brembos for summer to show off behind my RPF1s. If I can make this work until summer I'll invest in some 17" winter wheels for next season.. Last edited by Ethereal Drain; 03-11-2012 at 05:04 PM. |

I thought of that after I left for work, I wonder if that will completely solve the issue, or if it will just rub further inside the wheel?
They are ugly, but finding an affordable set of 16" 5x100 wheels in the proper offset around here is hard! Plus, they're just winter wheels, so the appearance doesn't mean much to me ![]() |

grind 'em...skip the blembos...get 4pots instead
4pot/h6 rears is a great combo....blembos really **** up the already bad front bias |

I was gonna upgrade the rears to H6 when I did the brembos, but I might have to sell the brembos to buy a gun for work anyway ![]() |

It looks like its rubbing on the barrel, not the spokes. spacers unfortunately wont help.
the best you could do is possibly shave the tops of the caliper a small amount and see if that helps, other than that - not much you can do. |

It is rubbing on the barrel, but it is angled slighty (hard to see in pics) from the spokes towards the middle of the barrel. A spacer might help a little so I'll probably pick 2 up anyway.

From the looks of the wheel, it appears that you would need to move the wheel about half an inch. you wont be able to do that on stock studs.
just grind em and be done with it. |

'cmon Luke...you know there arent any fluid passages on that side of that style caliper
I've ground calipers like that a good 1/4" or more to make wheels fit as long as you understand what you are doing and how to NOT do it...all good the op could grind those calipers down enough to work in 10 minutes with just a dremel...****....you could do it with a ****ing file in about that long too that little bit is NOTHINIG....the bloody wheels fit and turned...they only rubbed by a mm or so i'da had that done in less time than it took to post about it |

I was told by a friend that if I only have to shave off a little bit I wouldnt have to worry about any leaks, which I'm hoping to be true....

there are no fluid passages on that part of the caliper.
A guy in NESIC ground down his calipers to oblivion to clear 15" steelies, |

I was pretty cautious today when I first started, the first caliper took me about an hour, the second took probably 10 minutes
![]() Wheels now fit perfectly, and despite being hideous, I'm very pleased with my investment in this winter setup. Doesn't look too bad from 140 yards away... |
