This is a PITA swap if you're planning to do the whole center console stack...

Nope, just planning to do the vents themselves.
I will keep the center console, for now.
What's so hard about it?
I thought it was a fairly easy swap?

The vent part at the top is easy, but you will lose your cup holders.

The who console involved wiring work because on the 02-04's the mirror controls are in the center, but in 05-07, the mirror controls moved to the door. Which requires a door card swap and custom wiring.

the wiring is really easy honestly as the wire colors are the same, just need to run 6/7 wires from the center switch to inside the door to the 05-07 switch, took me about a hour or so to do it

Ok, that's what I thought (and why I haven't done the whole thing.)
I want.to get rid of the cupholder and make it look cleaner, so I thought this would be the best route.

Jay,
Is there anything else that I might get hung up on?
Sounds like its pretty do-able
I'm pretty savy with electrical stuff.

Also, I'm looking at doing the whole 2005 sti interior swap, were the door cards that tough? Should I reuse my old switches or use the 2005 switches?

From what I've read as long as you have all the right parts its not too bad.
