Sure everyone has an opinion. But what would they use if this was a track car and can I use it for daily?

The full synthetic 5w 30 or 10w 30. Need to double check the weight.

dont run it too long and keep an eye on the level as these engines drink that **** like water if you want to use a quality oil...see what bluesubie posted and if you wait for mobil1 to go on sale...you can get the 0w40 or the 5w40 'truck and suv' for the same price as the others...but it is good oil that wont shear to nothing in 500 miles many use the 5w40 Rotella T6---in the blue jug with excellent results as well as the 0w30 'german' Castrol synthetic....it can be hard to find in some places these are the 'best bet' most commonly available, inexpensive, oils you can likely find at any walmart(not the castrol) or autozone i'd run any of the above oils to a 5k mile(or longer, maybe) OCI without hesitation some of the 'boutique' ester based oils just arent cost effective at oil change intervals that we usually run......and really dont offer any real advantage over the other oils at shorter OCI's |

I wouldn't recommend Mobile 1 5w-30 as I learned the hard way and I was refilling my oil 1 quart every week and about 250 miles in that week as my DD and I was close to my 3k mile oil change and guess what!? I just got a rod knock and now I'm looking for a new motor or a block or which is cheaper and quicker to do to get me to work and my car is bone stock and barely beat on it with 117k miles....

You should have asked why he thought the 0W-40 was too light. True, M1 0W-40 is a light 40 weight (if comparing to Rotella 5W-40 or Red Line 0W-40) but that isn't something that is known by looking at the bottle or because the first number is 0. Go back into the store and tell him that the kinematic viscosity is 13.5 at 100 degrees Celsius, and the High Temp High Shear is 3.8 centipose at 350 degrees Celsius, and that it meets European ACEA A3 requirements for shear stability, so it should handle the Texas heat fine. Or you could just tell him to pound sand.
![]() He probably also thinks that 0W-30 is too light while Syntec 0W-30 is one of the thickest 30 weights you can buy. -Dennis |
