I'm looking into swapping a V8 or V9 EJ207 into my 2005 Legacy GT(blown engine); I plan on using the stock ECU since I'm assuming the V8 is 16-bit and the V9 uses an immobilizer? Of course, the ECU will be remapped. Would everything "play" OK?
As far as the actual engine, I've run into the issue of the DBW stock setup and the V8/V9s using DBC. I've read that using a 06-07 WRX or 04-07 STi manifold would work; but does this mean I need to swap over my TGV's too(or would I need the intake manifold's original TGV; assuming different bolt pattern), and would the original LGT TBW throttle body bolt to the WRX or STi manifold? Also, would I just be reusing my old engine harness(main thing is if I were to do top-feed conversion, they would still fit)? Sorry for so many questions; I've been searching for basically a week now and couldn't find the exact answers I was looking for. Thanks, Kevin |

My thread has some more pictures and details in addition to that one Luke posted above. I am doing this conversion on my 2006 WRX right now. I'm about a month out from finishing it.

Just thought I'd update for those curious:
Got it running 100%! The fitment on mine is a little bad since I used mix/matched parts from my LGT and an STi manifold; but the if you get the a complete USDM STi "top end"(waterpipes, etc.) then it should work/fit just fine. The intercooler fitment should be addressed though because the DBW TB is different(refer to "STi intercooler" swap threads, basically need different elbows for the Y-pipe and TB). I should note that I also had to reuse the "accessories" from the LGT(mainly P/S and A/C; alternator looked like it was interchangeable). On mine, there was nowhere to hook up the EGT sensor so it was disabled. Also, to avoid milling the driver's side head I went with an aftermarket hall sensor that was a smaller diameter, fabbed up a mount, and installed it so it was offset in the cam sensor bore(this pushes the sensor back a couple millimeters, which allows it to read the trigger edge). The stock LGT cam sensor was used on the passenger side but the mount hole was slotted. No CELs and works just fine. Also the stock LGT intake cams were swapped over.(Do this before dropping the motor in!!! I paid a lot because the shop that swapped the motor over didn't do it) It should also be noted, with no cam sensors installed, it takes a while to start up(almost 5s). When tuning, one thing I overlooked was I reused the O2 sensor that came with the engine swap, and OL/CL transition. Without adjusting for these, my car felt like the power was oscillating on/off during CL. Turns out, the scaling of the O2 sensor on the EJ207 engine is way different, and OL transistion is much sooner on the EJ207. Last edited by K2e2vin; 02-17-2013 at 09:38 AM. |

Pics! how does it drive, i thought of doing the same but was worried about a lack of torque for such a heavy car.

I'll upload pics when I get the chance, though doesn't really look anything special(except that it's messy due to "slapping parts together"; still looking for parts to clean that up).
Even though it's a smaller engine, the HP is higher on the 2.0l and I believe torque is around the same but comes in earlier on the EJ207 due to the twin-scroll turbo and more aggressive AVCS mapping. The LGT isn't that much more heavier than the STis; I think about 150-200lbs more. I've seen cars with a much lower torque/weight ratio(especially naturally aspirated cars). |

I see.
I was looking for more like swap pics, things you had to modify, etc. |
