Default Pioneer 8400 and JL Audio 10 in 2011 STi Sedan

Hey everyone,

I just thought I'd share my recent additions. I added the Pionner AVH-P8400BH, JL Audio 250/1 amp, and JL Audio CS110RG-W3v3 Powerwedge. I had these items installed by a very reputable dealer. The difference from stock is night and day. The installer actually called before he started because he listened to the stock setup and figured that I'd need new speakers as well to make the car sound decent. The bass in the doors is turned down quite a bit with most of the bass coming from the subwoofer. There are no more door rattles! The head unit is great and the Bluetooth is really easy to use. This one also has the Advanced App Mode which allows me to use Google Maps from my iPhone on the 7" screen. The powerwedge literally wedges perfectly on the upper deck of the trunk. It's not secured with anything but it's also not going to move even under spirited driving. The fit is exact and I would highly recommend it. If anyone has any specific questions, let me know. Here are a couple pics.

That's a awesome set up. Very nice.

Can you use other iphone apps other than the recommended ones on pioneer's site?

Nope just those for now. You do get your photo albums from your phone too but I don't really need that. I was planning on getting the 4400 but the dealer was unable to get it and this 8400 was available. I was only in the same area as the installer for a week so I took what I could get. I like the higher resolution screen though and the detach face may or may not come in handy.

Yep. I had a guy do it who now works for himself and is an authorized pioneer dealer. All steering wheel controls were integrated as well and the new Bluetooth mic is installed just above the rear view mirror.

Oh so you mean I just had to read more carefully and see that you posted that right in yours thread!? Lol my bad man. I just installed the 8400 yesterday and love it! Only one question.. Is there a way to set the rev alarm on the dash? Mine just reads "--00" and I cant seem to set it now or I'm just doing it wrong?! Thanks again

I haven't done it in a while but I think you have to be parked and then just hold the trip meter button in for a few seconds. Then you rotate that same button to set the shift light and rev alarm. Is this what you mean? Check your car manual too.

Yeah I know you have to hold it in but to set it you had to use the stock unit... Any idea on how to do it with the Pioneer? I'll check both manuals!

jnumata, you need the Forester Bezel... pronto! Looks great otherwise. Where's the amp mounted? Back of the box? I'd still have that box mounted to sheetmetal some how. Would really suck having a 40lb projectile in an accident.

EmWhyit, I can have my HU disconnected and out in under 5 min now.

You need two things:
1) Paint can opener, the one that has a hook at one end, beer opener at the other
2) Old credit card

Take a paint can opener, jam it thru the far right side vent and push sideways to the passenger door to hook the hook at the very back of the vent. Shine a light before you hook to figure out what you're hookin onto.
With pressure still applied towards the passenger door, pull out every so slightly and with great control (first time I wanked and the whole dam bezel popped off and came FLYING at me).
This should give you enough of a gap to stick an old credit card between the console and the bezel.
You can then remove your paint opener and then focus removing the bezel with your fingers with the gap the credit card made.

Be very careful when pulling the paint can opener, if it slips it'll scratch up the inside of your vent, but not a HUGE deal as it's pretty dam hard to see into the vent. Just forewarned.

I discovered the jdm bezels too late to have it installed by the dealer. The more I looked at them the more I realized I like the bracket around the unit. The jdm is flush but it has weird lines to my eyes. I like the flat look of mine. Maybe someday.

Oh yeah, I'm not too worried about the box in an accident. It is in the trunk where things are meant to be hauled. I would be more worried about tumbling it around the trunk and breaking it. Amp is under passenger seat.

I can't tell from your description, but did you replace the stock speakers or not? And how do they sound now?

Stock speakers. The sound from the doors is incredible now with absolutely no rattle. I didn't really believe that a new headunit would improve the sound but I'm a believer now. Granted, most of the bass is diverted to the sub so that also helps with the rattles. It's really a night and day difference over the stock deck.

Mmmm, I can't wait to do the HU upgrade. Of course, I have to take everything to the max, so I need to save up some more money for other audio and sound deadening/dampening gear.

I don't know. I do know that my blutooth no longer works once upgrading to iOS 6. I can use the phone and music plays but I lost the use of my audio steering wheel controls and the deck no longer shows song information. Hopefully Apple and Pioneer come up with a fix!
