Default Sourcing full V7 swap

Like the title states I am looking for companies that sell full JDM STi swaps. So far I have only really come up with 1 company that comes close. Toronto JDM sources everything minus the hubs/knuckles/brembos, but claims they can get them.

Does anybody recommend a different distributer or have any experience with Toronto JDM.

Alot of my google searches are pulling up ancient forum posts from nasioc/iwsti/wrx-tuner etc....

I was thinking of sourcing the brembos first, as they can be put on wrx hubs for now. Then I would need full swap engine/transmission/axels/hubs/R180/ecu to do the V7 swap. Going price seems to be about 6k - 7k for the full swap (in some instances not including r180/axels/brembos) I can source the brembos from USDM sti's but would want the axels and R180 to come with the swap.

Any info or help would be appreciated!!

talk to an importer about buying a wrecked car....I have a friend who bought a 95 sti that was hit in the b pillar but no dmg to front or rear. He got the whole car for 2500 and 500 for shipping. He got everything and with the parts he didn't want he sold and made half his money back

I would do that if I lived on the west coast. But being in the midwest USA, we have no such importers... I would be looking for a 02-04 STi however. I mean google pulling up good sources, but I have no way of knowing their credible. Alot of the honda guys love the HMOMotors, so I didnt know if there is a Subi specialist in the JDM import scene.

Check the vendor forums, there are several JDM importers. I got my stuff from JDM racing motors, great service.

I would get a V8 the V7s are getting old and may have been sitting in a junk yard for years.

Yeah but V7 has the better internals, along with Non DCCD 6spd. Ive read a few posts that even the old ones are running strong. I would ultimately do a soft rebuild on the motor before putting it in.... but the forged internals plus the 40/60 split 6spd tranny have me sold. They have the better front differential as well if I remember correctly.

But thanks for the tip on the vendors forum, I didnt think to look there.

If you are gonna do a partial rebuild throw forged pistons in a v8, they have the better oiling setup in the crank and you get better cams. I do not know people that are popping pistons in the V8 motors like with the 205. The V7 pistons are not like aftermarket forged units they are only slightly tougher but have lower thermal conductivity. You also get the sick twin scroll setup on the v8.

The DCCD transmission with a 3.9 rear end is 35/65 torque split when run with no diff controller. most of the non-DCCD 6-speeds have an open front diff, very few have 3 limited slips since then you cant run ABS on 3 LSDs without trouble. the 3 LSD transmissions I believe were specifically for rally use.

Really? I thought even the usdm has some sort of lsd in the front. I wasnt trying to crack the heads on the rebuild, just timingb/water pump/seals. But im getting mixed info on the v7 vs v8. I mean the DCCD tranny Im okay with.

The USDM has a DCCD in addition to a front and rear diff, when you apply the brakes the DCCD unlocks so ABS can work.

no ABS JDM STI = 3 LSDs with no DCCD
JDM STI W/ABS = DCCD+F/R diff or Front open diff W/Center and rear LSD

The v8 will easily make 400 WHP GT30 power levels, unless you are going farther the factory motor is plenty. A bad tune will break any motor so we are talking safe well tuned power here.

I am looking for more of 400BHP 350 WHP with similar yet FLAT torque curve. I am pretty knowledgeable of the USDM setups, but am realizing I dont know **** about the JDM offerings. But owning a bugeye wrx, I think the JDM swap has more appeal. I do my own tuning, so I know it'll be safe, but a slow process.

Although for just getting a stock JDM motor going, the Twin scroll definitely has more appeal. Plus, I would like to mess with tuning it for the experience. But you made me aware of this ABS issue, so importantly I think a V8 is a better fit into my WRX so I can maintain ABS. Although the table shows they have a V7 with DCCD, or at least they have the 02 STi with a DCCD option.

They exist, but they are more than 10 years old now. so you got to worried they are all gunked up and the syncros are worn.

You will love a v8, I can send you some starter base maps if you want. I am tuning a fleet of local JDM motors on gas and e85
