Default New guy here

Hey everyone,

Well I recently got me an 04 wrx (traded my street bike for it). The car has 113k miles, and according to carfax it's had more then a few owners (i'm #9). So for that reason I'm gonna be giving the car a good tune up and conditioning.

Plans are to do the following:
Oil & filter
Trans fluid
Rear diff fluid
Break fluid
Coolant flush
Timing belt & tensioners & water pump
Spark plugs
Acc belts

Also may drop the center diff and replace the bearings just cause I "think" I heard a whine when I drove it home. That or it could of been from the crappy bald tires which are also out of alignment.

So yeah that's my plans. If there is anything else I should change or check feel free to provide input.

Well I've had the car now almost a month. Most of that month its been sitting on jack stands waiting for parts to arrive. The only down side is the more I take off the more parts I want to buy and install because I'm already there lol.

Starting point - Engine is all stock

First change, removing any curb rash and and then powder coating the wheels. They are a metalic copper blend but my camera phone didnt capature it very well.

next week comes i should get in the remaiing parts, install tires and get an alignment. Then I'm not sure maybe a AP

Replacing front passenger axle, still waiting on new axle to arrive

new adjustible rear control arms

turbo looks decent for 113k miles

A lot of work to get this out but worth it.

Throw some pics up of your car with the new wheels!

And add replacing the cabin air filter to the list. It's located behind the glovebox and only takes a few minutes to get out. And they are fairly inexpensive (compared to what the stealership will charge you). I picked up mine for about $15 from amazon.

Will do. Planning on getting tires installed tomorrow before work.

Yeah I will do the cabin filter as well. Already did engine filter.

Debating on doing plugs. I got them already but looks like a little pain to install.

Installed Perrin heat shield with DEI gold heat tape on the underside (idk if it will make a difference but it might)

And finally got around to putting the tires on and getting an alignment

But the "tech" didnt seam to try to hard to get it right so I'll have to take it back another day after my camber bolts arrive.
Currently front L(0.5) R(0.2), Rear (L0.0) R(-0.3)

some inexpensive mods to do...

i put ngk iridiums in and they last awhile and reflecta golded my heat shield around the tmic and y pipe underneath (hint mods are endless).

bushings are a cheap mod, especially if install yourself. like you i replaced my lat links with adjustable that came with bushings already. trailing arm and rear diff and subframe bushings are huge. i just replaced my front lca bushings, 2nd time around.

if you can bump your idle up to 900-1k rpm do it. was advised oem 500 idle was just too low to cool and oil the engine. the oem plastic tanks on the radiator will eventually crack and i bought a fleabay cx r dual core radiator for like $150...replaced the cheap drain plug with a brass for $2 and reused my oem fans/shrouds. last suggest water wetter or mocool...and a grimmspeed 160 degree thermostat...keep engine cooler. like your rims.

Yeah 2 or 3 core radiator is on the list for next spring since summer is almost over and all.

I'm trying to get it all set up but with so many previous owners it's been neglected pretty bad. The paint is nice but last owner went crazy with tint spray and the car has a bunch of over spray.

Also have a weird whine I have yet to diagnose. Thinking its either center diff bearings or a driveline issue. Only hear it at 60-80 mph. So gotta figure it out so I can fix it.

Ebay one that came with y pipe. Fit it pretty good. Doesn't hit ac lines. But elbow was a bit to long so I had to trim it.

I'm jealous, wish I could find someone somewhat local willing to give up their WRX for my Harley. Nice looking car, and congrats to the nice build already under way.
