Default 88xt coupe

I've recently found 88xt coupe (5spd) for 700 obo I can't recall mileage since it has a 1.8l swapped from an 87xt.
In fairly decent shape with a straight.body and no major rust. Interior appears to have no rips/tears/stains but what makes me intrigued is what can I do to it engine wise???
Or what can be swapped in with a 2-3g budget?
...it does crank but doesnt turn over to fire

The first thing I would check for why it does not fire is the timing belt. Pull either the distributor cap, or the outer timing covers and see if the belts are in one piece, and if the rotor is spinning.

Oh and of course cheap stuff like fuses.

Ill start there when I check it out. The main question is does anyone believe its worth it to buy?
Seems that of course like it would be realitively easy to swap a used and/or new engine in fairly cheap as well

I owned a 89 XT for 2 years. Loved the car, hated to leave it behind. You can swap the engine easily (like any 80's model Subaru), but if you can get it to run cheaply without getting a new engine, keep the one you have. Got pics?

Typically in swaps you have to change out the tranmission as well. Then there's wiring, and depending on motor there may be a lot.

Mine has a legacy tranny right this second, but in a few weeks it'll have a STi six speed. Newerngen motors open the world for mods.
