535 WHP Mustand Dyno: Element Tuning Hydra EMS 2.7 08 STi ET Pro Comp 9:1 ENG Hydramist Pump Gas ET BV Heads 272 cams 35R
I don't have a lot of history on this dyno but I was told it reads 13% low which from my experience with other Mustangs is not out of the realm of reality. There aren't too many 08+ STis running around with this level of engine modification so it was a good project and we did learn a lot from this car. I was able to dial in the dual avcs maps in the Hydra for the BC 272 cams on the dyno but this took some time. Finding the right amount of overlap is not easy with the dual avcs setups. It's a balancing act of maintaining good spoolup but also good driveability. With the higher compression we never were going for big numbers on pump gas but managed 445 whp at 22 psi. Moving into the pump and Hydramist maps we did get some misfires but the plugs were from the break in so we replaced and gapped them a little tighter. Like clockwork turn the Hydramist on, the Hydra switch maps, dial up the boost, lean out the AFR in the auxilliary maps, and we gained +90 whp with 80% water injection. It's not classified but the Hydra has 1032 load cells for the intake and 1032 load cell for exhaust cam.
What exactly do you want to know?Regardless the Hydra speaks in a different language so the "range" I tune in is -64 to +64 so it will not correlate into very useful data. Now it takes knowledge, time, patience, and a customer willing to pay for the time to optimize. You basically try to get the most bottom end power, then you try to get the most top end power. At this point you converge the two and you likely end up with some ugly dyno plot. It's at this point you start blending and building a good powerband. I was actually able also to make more low RPM power, which it's already exceptional, but it had some driveability issues (hesitation, bog..zing). In the end you have to compromise. In all honesty the dual AVCS setup from Subaru is stupid and is designed for fuel economy. If I had the time I would completely design my own cams so dual AVCS could be tuned logically on these engines. I know they are capable of this as the FRS/BRZ I've been tuning are setup much more so this way (nice big exhaust cam that doesn't even move until higher up in the RPM range). |

Have u noticed increased engine reliability from the dry sump setups? I was reading magnus' posts about his belief of much increased reliability.
Anyway, she sure does spool well, interesting setup. |

I assume you lose the AC with the dry sump? And where you keep the oil tank in an 08? I have yet to see pics of dry sump in an 08+ vehicle. very interested. |

The whole engine, Hydra EMS, tuning, and exhaust components need to all work in harmony to get such good low RPM power but to all get huge peak power.
I know everyone is on the twin scroll band wagon but we've been pushing out some ridiculously good spooling single scroll stuff. We've also stuffed some really large exhaust wheels into .82 single scroll housings with excellent results when used with our higher compression big valve head motors. On one setup we were making over 300 whp by 4000 RPM and over 700 whp peak (not on the Mustang dyno). |

Honestly I can't believe how much better the cylinder wall lubrication has been with the dry sump on our race car! It's by far the best money you can spend if you're a road racer. In street trim it's a little over kill but it does solve many issues people have with blow by and oil consumption. It's basically recycling all your blow by oil and as you would imagine bearing lubrication is much better, ring seal, etc.
It's not going to fix busted cylinder liners..it's no miracle elixir but I'll get to that later. |

Not with our system since it bolts in place of the AC compressor.
