Default need help with viper alarm 5901

To make things short I purchased a viper 5901 remote starter/alarm over a yr ago and finally had my co workers brother install it for me. Now i pretty much completed what he didnt finish yesterday. The "problem" the car arms and the responder flashes and receives the message from the remote. when I try to start the car i get a remote start error and the lights flash seven times. so I checked the troubleshoot page and found it was because the remote start wasnt in manual transmission. But my valet/program button isnt working on the responder. it was working earlier and i accidently put the car in valet mode and heard two chirps i think. i figured out how to get it out of valet through the remote but now the programer button isnt working at all and i cant get into the menu to change the starter to a manual trans setup. is there a reset? Can I unplug the battery and brain a reset the default settings and get this damn button working again?

brains are set to manual transmission from the factory.

have you learned tach?
hooked up your neutral safety switch?
hooked up clutch bypass?
door trig?

all of these things need to be done in order to "set up" the vehicle before you can remote start.

We tried to learn tach but I wouldn't work the way he had it so I went off the crank sensor + at the ecu, the neutral safety I hooked up to the parking brake ground, the doors seem to be connected, don't know about the clutch bypass. I tried the tach learn but it wouldn't take and that's when I accidentally put it in valet mode. Since I got it out of valet the button on the responder hasn't worked. I had an old viper 300 in the car so I'm assuming he went off of that as far for all his connections since they were already there. I'll try to take a look at it tomorrow for the clutch bypass. Do I need a relay for this?

Lol yea. It's a 98 rs with a 05 wrx swap and a 2011 2.5 hybrid. He wired everything for the 98 except the tach wire which should work. When I did the swap everything from the pass side over stayed as a 98. The drive train is the original rs one. So the only difference is the wiring directly at the ecu, the ecu, engine harness and engine. Everything at column was untouched and I do not have an oe alarm or a module for a key.

To blessthekellen I checked for a wire going to the clutch off the brain and nothing. So I don't think he installed the clutch bypass. I know what wire to connect it to on the car but looking at the install guide it doesn't tell me which wire to use for the clutch bypass.

I still think there is a bigger problem then the clutch bypass but that will have to be done as well. With the car running put your foot on the brake then engage the hand brake and release the foot brake.. now press the rem start button and the car should continue to run... does it or no?

Also if the tach signal is a no go i would use one of the injector wires they are also at the ecu they gibe a good known signal

Ok, yea I figured if the crank didn't read to go to the injectors, I figured the blue white wire on the 5 pin remote start input is my clutch bypass which was not connected but I have a car to work an at work so once I get a chance ill get back to it and also try that learn you gave me. But I'm concerned about that valet button on the receiver not working.

Your clutch bypass wire is your second start wire (purple in 5 pin harness) and you should use a relay with it... you can get away using the second status wire (blue/white) but I prefer the start as its only needed during crank. And it is a little weird that your valet is not working.. is it separate or built into the antenna?

Also to check your door monitoring which is needed for programming as well as for rem start open a door and press lock on the fob... it should chirp then chirp again a few seconds later also your fob should indicate a door is still open..

Built into the antenna. That's my program button as well. I can put the car in valet through the remote. I just can't start the tach learn bc the button isn't working. Before I was able to press it to start the tach learn and it would basically kick me out. Saying something was wrong. The light would just blink once and not stay steady. I assume its because some of the wires were not connected now. But the button should still do something

If you cycle the ignition on then off and tap the button will the light go on steady? iirc to program you open a door and turn the ign on then with in 5 seconds press and hold the valet button and listen for the chirps one chirp for the first menu 2 chirps for the second etc then you release and tap the number of the item your trying to change then press once more and hold and use the rem to change options.. does that sound like the process you were doing? If so you should really make sure the door pins are hooked up.

I did the first one originally trying to hold the button waiting for the light to become steady. I did this just as you explained with the door open but the I forgot to release it and it went through the menu setup. I think some how I managed to shut off the button if that's even possible.

Ok so everything is hooked up the way it should be. Doors and hood are connected. If I open the door and arm the car I get two chirps and a message on the remote. I Hooked up the clutch bypass with the 2nd status wire, blue white to the resting ground on the clutch. The neutral safety is hooked up to the e brake and the tach to the crank + at the ecu. The button on the antenna does not work. I've tried learning tach and entering the menu through the antenna and it does nothing. Light doesn't even flash once. Like I said before the led on the antenna flashes when armed so it operates. I think either I broke the button or somehow turned it off. It was functioning before but I had accidentally gone into the menu function instead of the tach learn and somehow put the car in valet. Since I have taken it out of valet mode through the remote the button on the antenna has not worked.

Is there a way to reset the system so that button would work again. Then I would be able to go from there

check your on/off switch.
to take off valet from antenna, put key in ignition, turn to ignition,
press and hold the button on the antenna within 5 seconds.

should get two chirps/parking lights to confirm.

start vehicle.
press antenna button once, should click once to confirm you have properly learned tach. if it does not flash, you do not have a valid tach signal.

According to the install guide the tach is learned when the light is on steady. But I need to do the shutdown procedure and don't know how. Any clues?

If the alarm is switched to automatic it cranks but doesn't start. What's missing.

tach is missing. you still havent learned tach, so the starter doesnt know when to stop engaging.

when tach is learned properly, you will receive one parking light flash as well as a chirp from the alarm.

learn tach.

Ok. So tell me if I'm doing this right. To learn tach door open start engine and within 5 sec hold the valet button down on antenna till the led becomes steady then release and that's when the alarm should chirp. Tach has been learned at that point? Another question is tach suppose to have power at the ecu? If so then I have it correct. But I found on modifiedlife.com it needed to be the ground side at the ecu. Is that correct? I guess technically speaking that would be the signal side depending on how you look at it.

This is why I stick to fixing cars and staying away from alarms. Give me a wire diagram and I can figure it out. But alarms are different animals. Haven't dealt with them enough I guess.
