I have an 01 RS. And I am getting ready to do an ej205 swap so I can finally start living in the Turbo world for the first time. Nevertheless, I am concerned about the engine that is going to be dropped into my car. Should it be rebuilt first due to Replace head gasket ? What is a good limit of miles to search for in the engine I'm going to be putting in?

it's hard to make a guess here. personally, i would rebuild if you want it to last. if you rebuild, milage isn't really an issue. if you don't rebuild, milage can be a nonexistant to huge issue depending on whether it was abused or not. some engines last well over 200k, some only last 35k. if you have the money, rebuild it for sure. shortcuts tend to cost more in the long run, afterall. good luck!

Since its already out... I would replace piston rings, turbo inlet, oil pump 2011 STi, timing belt, spark plugs, check/adjust vavles, water pump, valve cover gaskets, catless up pipe and install new vac lines...
Motor mounts, trans mounts, Clutch and flywheel as well Therefore mileage shouldn't be an issuse since most parts that usually give headaches will be replaced |

No need for a 2011 oil pump, it's bigger because of the extra flow for the dual AVCS, the pump on the EJ205 is best for the EJ205. Other engine related stuff I'll agree with. Trans mount is easy enough later if you skip one. Motor mounts, clutch and flywheel... now is the time.

When I had mines out, I bought a Gasket overhaul kit and replaced all the gaskets I could before I dropped it in. That goes along with the water pump, idlers, and timing belt. Changing out any of the internal stuff is up to you, but I didn't bother.
