Thumbs down clutch, burning oil and vibration

I just purchased a 2003 wrx with 120,000 miles on it about 2 weeks ago. It had been hit in the front left and wasn't fixed(dealership was just going to wholesale it to a lot, but tried selling it themselves first). For this reason I picked it up for about 3000 under KBB value, figured "fender, bumper and headlight?" not a problem. Have replaced all of that and am now fiding more things, which are going to prove more expensive, I know. Today I noticed it was burning quite a bit of oil when I was in boost in 3rd gear getting on the highway. I don't have a boost gauge(doing that saturday) so I don't know exactly when it started happening in the boost range. Haven't checked turbo for oil coming out of it tonight to rule that it needs that, but thats what I'm thinking. Any other ideas? Are valve seats something I should be thinking about? This is my DD and I can't afford to rip it out to rebuild the heads at this current moment.

Also noticed a whining sound while slowing down, most noticeable in second gear, that goes away when I push the clutch in. The clutch does not slip though.

And last, and hopefully least, while cruising down the road the car seems to have a slight "bounce" to it, idk how else to describe it.

Any and all help on these is greatly appreciated, haven't had time to get to do any troubleshooting on any of this yet.

tebriel-I didn't notice any of this when I test drove it.

mod maniac-I had read a little about this earlier and didn't know if that would cause the amount of smoke that I saw. It was a good sized cloud about the car width wide and lasted for about 40 feet or so. As soon as I noticed it, i let off the gas. I tried to recreate it on my way home but wasn't able, I figure that it couldn't happen untill I hit a certain RPM or boost pressure. Will try PCV valve this weekend.

Changing the pcv valve could help with the oil problem. I think you can do an exhaust on a 02-03 without hurting the engine.

Any cels? And was the smoke blue? I bought my 02 and stuttered under boost and one day had a huge puff of black smoke behind me and started getting a misfire cylinder 4 code shortly after. Turned out to be a coil pack. But you should compression test regardless. Get a cheapo tester at autozone. Just be sure to tighten the adapter on the end of it before you use it. Don't want to loose that in a spark plug hole! Good luck bud.

that whining noise in second gear is most likely your transmission. i had a 01 rs that had a noisy transmission and my wrx transmission makes a hell of a lot of noise in second and third gear when i get on it and slow down.

No CEL and yes, the smoke is blue, it did it again today getting on the highway a little sooner than last time, replacing the PCV valve in about 20 minutes, will drive for a few days and get back to everyone.

probably a bad turbo. i had the same symptoms until it eventually became a rolling smoke machine. replaced the turbo and not a bit of smoke since.

I replaced the valve and it doesn't seem to smoke as much. There is still a little bit of smoke when I get on it. There wasn't much oil in the turbo or intercooler so I don't think the turbo is shot, maybe 2 or 3 drops worth total. I dealt with a bad turbo on my supra before i tore it apart. Will keep an eye on it though. If it is bad could I get an upgraded turbo and not have to tune if i still run the same boost? Or do i need to since it will spool different? Still learning about these cars but have been reading posts about them.

i would recomend a tune, since it is the 03 i'm not sure if it is required to work right. most of it works off of the boost solenoid which controls everything through the wastegate unless u were upgrading the turbo to a big one with an external wastegate u shouldn't need a tune. but like i said i would still recomened it

mine is still stock im waiting on saving money for a tuner so i can do everything correctly when i start upgrading it i also am getting a catch can or a/o separator to keep the oil blow-by from higher rpm out of my intake system and intercooler because i've learned that can cause lean conditions and stutters while in boost from the oil mixing with gas causes it.

Looking into getting an 18g if this one is bad with internal wastegate, so i think a tune would be required. It didn't seem to smoke at all anymore so I think the PCV valve fixed it. Got new ties and did a world of difference for the "bounce" problem.
