Acura ZDX Disco'd (and not a single **** was given)

After an incredible 4 model years. Way to go, Acura!

To compare the ZDX to the Pontiac Aztek is an insult to the Aztek (which at least offered rear passenger and cargo space).

If you're in the market for a new Acura ZDX, consider heading to a dealership soon: Acura has announced that they will discontinue the crossover after the 2013 model year.

The all-wheel drive ZDX, which shares a platform with the more conventional Acura MDX, will reportedly sign off with a “single, value-added package.” In other words, the crossover will only be sold in one configuration—which happens to be heavily loaded with luxury features including 10-speaker surround sound, an eight-inch display with integrated rearview camera system and heated, ventilated front seats.

Safety-oriented technology like forward-collision warning and lane-departure-warning systems will make their ZDX debut as well. Mild exterior updates include a redesigned (if still beak-like) grille, and refreshed front and rear bumpers.

The 2013 Acura ZDX will hit lots Oct. 19. Expect to pay $51,815 for the crossover once the destination charges have been tacked on.

Actually I bet you can get a loaded ZDX for a song in about 4 months when they are still sitting on the dealership lots. Can you imagine the deal you could haggle...

4 months? There are still some 2011 models on showroom floors. I test drove a 2013 Land Cruiser last weekend and while at it the sales guy mentioned that a swell $14k under msrp would take the 2011 model still hanging out on the showroom floor, so I bet if pushed one might even get as much as $20k off. Paying floorplan and insurance for over 2 years will have that effect...

Thing is, a ZDX w/ tech pkg stickers at $52k. Even if you get $10k off, that's still a lot of money for what's essentially an Acura MDX.

I went looking for some info, and this sounds like a real winner of a vehicle:

It does have a nicer interior, for the front seat passengers, at least.

Rear accommodations are pitiful, but then again they are as well in the X6, and I see plenty of them around here.

Trying to get in to the back seat of one of those is brutalis maximus. It's actually laughable. I'm 5'9" 160 and had to go in all kinds of sideways.

I would say though, depending on your need, if you can really get $20K off, it might not be such a bad idea. It will at least be reliable, and the SH-AWD is pretty nice, I heard.

Of course it says a lot about the product if 40% discount is barely enough to get you going, "hmmm...".

I've seen a couple on the road, but anecdotal evidence is meaningless in the face of trulyepicfail sales figures: Acura sold 48 ZDXs last month.

The TL SH-AWD is cheaper, more powerful, gets better fuel economy, has more rear seat room and handles better than the ZDX.

Obviously, Acura shoppers are smarter than product planners gave them credit for.

I remember when this car came out, I sat in the back of one at an autoshow. The rear rubber gasket was coming off from people rubbing against it to get in and out. Truly a uselessly awful design.

The BMW X6 is close to as hopeless, but the roof arches a bit to make it possible to get in and out, and holds its silliness better than this thing does.

That's the strange thing. The X6 was already a questionable idea, based on the notion that some people want big and heavy SUVs not because of its practicality but despite of it. Now this kind of vanity niche I'm sure exists, and maybe BMW could've / have pulled it off.

But that's BMW. Of all the "luxury" makers, Acura is the most sensible and least conspicuous. It seems to me like the last brand that someone who wants a 4300lbs vehicle that costs $50K and has no more room inside than a Civic just cause it looks bad-ass would even consider. What a dumb move by Honda.

I'm glad that the new Accord is awesome, I hope Honda can put this period behind and go on with being great again.

I thought the Miata was the perfect DINKmobile, when I was still a DINK. The last thing I wanted was some expensive, pseudo-sporty SUV that was really just a lifted Accord.

Not suprising. The dealer near me has one listed for $12k under msrp. When I chatted with the salesman, he said that the ZDX was very hard to sell.
