I know this doesn't belong here but this is my best guess.
I have a 2002 wrx and these are my mods: VF39 turbo @ 15psi k and N cold air intake apexi catback N1 megan racing downpipe new up pipe manual boost controller "pink" 565cc sti fuel injectors Pro tune What im definitely getting: coilovers sway bars new tires/rims Now for engine modifications I want to see what I could do, if anything to get some more power. I recently got the car and the owner before had a new tranny and clutch put in. Unfortunately he put the "glass" 02 tranny in. I have heard they can't handle much over 300hp and on the dyno I have about 300 apparently. I dont have proof this is just want the previous owner has told me. So what is a good step to take? Is there anything else worth the money to do? Maybe a new tmic? maybe a FMIC? probably not because the VF39 is pretty small. Perhaps new pulleys? Or perhaps a turbo upgrade running at lower boost? Or a turbo that will get more turbo range with a more steady pull. I am really at a loss right now. Any advice is greatly appreciated. |

How much they hold is mostly dependant on how you drive. Don't launch, flat foot shift, etc, they will hold more. A friend rally his 02 with over 230k, stock trans and has had no issues

yea i'm pretty easy on it but not going to lie once in a while I get a little into it. Also im sure even driving normally it would have some sort of power limit. Maybe not 300 but something?

The limit to you Subaru transmission is YOU, not a power figure. If you drive like a maroon, you will break it. If you drive nicely, it will not break. In order to get the answers to your questions you need to state WHP goal and budget. Also state WHY you need coilovers and swaybars.

i agree^ i have the AA trans in my bugeye and its certainly not "glass". ive never launched it but very hard accels. ill be aiming for around 320whp with the mods i want and i dont have a doubt that it wont hold up to the power

It's violent loading and torque that kills gears. With 15PSI peak your probably not getting a really high torque so your probably good. Even if it is a less strong transmission, I would just wait til it breaks before replacing it.

Well, my goal is anywhere from 320 to 350 tops. I want to get coilovers to get a little lower and sway bars to stiffen up my handling. i'm not really looking for a full thorough build recommendation i'm really just looking for a good next step to take. Christmas is coming up so im going to have some money to spend. People are telling me to go with an upgraded TMIC like the turboxs. What do you guys think about that? And im assuming I need to get the car retuned after getting an intercooler.

if you're only looking for 320-350, an evo 3 16g will do the job just fine.

As for the coil overs, don't get them. If all you want to do is go a bit lower, just find a nice spring/strut combo. Unless it's a car that is tracked every other day, coils aren't worth it (and maybe not even worth it either in this scenario). But as for the TMIC, go for it. And yes, to see any benefits you'll need a new tune. |

1. Call your tuner about your WHP goal and take his advice 100% without listening to us.
2. You have no idea about suspension. Get that through your head first off. I know it sounds harsh, but lowering with coilovers and using swaybars to "stiffen up" is what ignorant people do. Visit www.turninconcepts.com and click on their contact us section where their phone number is. Call them on Tuesday. Tell them your budget and goals and buy EXACTLY what they say with zero thought on your part. If you do anything other than what I have just said you will be super unhappy and your car will bounce around like a log wagon with no load. If you buy exactly what they say, you will be super happy. This might be my best post ever. |

Ask your tuner about Grimmspeed's port n polish services, or BC cams.

Okay cool. Wow a bit harsh lol. Now I want to just read all about suspension and become a genius lmao. But cool I will definitely call tiC I have heard good things about them. Also this is unrelated but it just happened to me. I got the car this summer and I didn't have it during the winter. I went to go start my car yesterday and it idled at 2k then down to 1k then back up to 2k etc. At first this what weird and normally I would let the car warm up but this scared me so I just left and drove around my block keeping it out of turbo range. At first it was like jolted forward as if it was running super lean. Then it felt fine. After it was warm I put the pedal down a bit and once I was in turbo range it jolted really hard as if I had stalled. Obviously thats not the case at 30mph. Does anyone have any ideas? Someone told me o2 sensor I don't think its that. Someone else said it was the cold idler valve needs to be cleaned. Also the check engine went on. Im hoping that was just a coincidence because I get the pesky evap check engine on alot when my gas cap isn't in the perfect spot lol.

Whats the Cel light code, that will 99.9% tell you what it its before we all jump in and guess.
To get the power your looking for get: -16g-xt-r from Blouch or a 16g-xt -Silicone or hard turbo inlet -800-850cc injectors -bigger better TMIC, at the least a STi better yet a ProcessWest/AMR/APS/AVO/Spearco -PnP the exhaust colecotors or get a good UE-tube headder and skip the next one -Port match all the flanges from the collectors to the turbo -TGV deletes and port match the manifold to the TGVs -Obviously a retune.....you will need to be some where around 22-24psi Recommendations after that: -External WG, as an internal will not be as crisp/accurate -Bigger radiator -SS oil line for the turbo and a inline filter I have a DD 02 Wagon with a normal Blouch 16g and STi Pinks at 21psi and am 310whp 301tq. At that the injectors are wound all the way out. I have all the PnP recommendations I mentioned and a Process West TMIC and it gained me a little over 40 HP from no PnP and STi TMIC Oh and update your profile so we know were you are and can recommend a tunner/shop near you |

One more question lol...I'm going to buy a code reader because I feel like I should have one around. I want it to be in the realm of 100$...unless you know of one cheaper that is good. But I want it to be able to clear the code too.

Does a code reader like that clear code? I would like one that i can clear so when I get the evap code up I can fix it and just reset it without waiting the 5 trips for it to fix itself lol.
