To all those who served before me and to those serving along with me now, I salute you. I hope that if you are able today to meet one of these men and women who would gladly lay down their lives to protect you, that at the very least you shake their hand and say thank you. Have a great day AKIC.

It's a hard knock life.. on a JBER note, do you guys ever meet up? Seems like most of the Subaru owners on JBER already know each other, didn't know if y'all ever get together

For those on the line, I salute you.
To stay fit to fight, one must constantly train. Constant training puts more wear and tear on the body. The human is not designed to last forever and begins a progressive gradual decline sometime in it's 4th decade. These soldiers reach this 4th decade in a premature state of aging. Degenerative joint disease, ligament and muscle damage, nerve impingements are all common. Recently, as part of my medical training, I have been working on base at the JBER hospital, seeing the retired, the officers, the enlisted and their dependents. I have always had a deep respect for those who would lay down their lives and make sacrifices for this nation. Even more so now, hearing their stories in person and seeing their illnesses or injuries from an intimate perspective. I find it a great tragedy that these individuals are guaranteed to be taken care of to defend the country but at the whim of the political climate can have these guarantees erased in one fell swoop. I pray for them and their families. |
