Default knock on shut off

Forgive me if this is the wrong thread.

But what would possibily explain a knock when shutting the car off when running 93. But also disappeared when using 91 instead?. Stupid question I'm sure. But has anyone has this problem, I thought it could be an internal component knock, but like I said it went away when I put in 91 on two fillups, one at a half tank and the other on a quarter tank. Since going back to 93 I haven't heard the knock on shutoff. I will note that I am hitting the boost point I should be (automatic trans, 180k on motor).

It just baffled me that it when it went away, could it have been bad gas since I got the car which I highly doubt since I've owned the car since last year and put on 20k from may of 2011 to now.

I thought it was something normal but after if went away, it is something more? Or something I should just over look for now

It may be your exhaust banging on something when the motor shuts off. It could be your exhaust hangers are bad. My aftermarket exhaust was hitting my rear crossmember because they welded and extra bar for support that I cut off with a recipricating saw and haven't had an issue since.

See I kind off thought that at first. It was just weird that as soon as I put 3/4 of a tank 91, that it stopped. It was coming from what sounded like the lower front. So I had a thought that maybe it was the cat in the up, starting to come loose or something since I haven't gone catless up yet.

Like I said it went away so I'm not worrying to much yet, but keeping it in the front of my head to watch for.

But on that note is there any warning signs for when the cat goes? Or will it just let go and grenade

Ahhhh Get the cat out!!!!! If the cat was comming apart the chunk could just be stuck for now. If it moves again it could take out your turbo. It's best to be safe, get it out of there. If you don't have the money for an uppipe just hollow it out.

Yeah, I have plans on what I want. What's the work around for the uppipe and tuning, in regards to the egt. Cause if I'm downthere I would most likely get the dp done too and fix the oil leak that's on the pan seal(not bad yet, but fixing it asap, cause it hasn't changed since I got the car, but still needs to be done).

I would have no issue getting reflashed, but at that rate I would just get an ap (especially if I get the downpipe obv). Or I think I remember someone mentioning (and seeing here) about just inserting a resistor into the pigtale harness?

All good suggestions that I checked. Like I said a month ago I used 91 instead of 93. Knock on shutoff stopped. Began 93 again after needing the next fillup following use of 91. No noise since. Thats why I was confused and wondering what to start looking at

Mine does the same thing. I run 91 (its all that's available to me). Ive never worried about it, just figured it was something external banging on something when the engine shakes while sutting off. Let us know if you find out otherwise.. Btw im ALL catless.

I have the same problem and its the exhaust hitting. Somewhere up front. Ground down the transmission brace and it helped, but still rattles on start up. More grinding!
