First question I have is: will the ej22 just swap right into the 05 rs engine bay?
If not, then what all else do I need to do to make it work?
Thank you!l help please!

You have left out a lot of info that leads to many assumptions:

-Yes mechanically it will drop right in.
-Yes your 05 heads will swap right onto that short block.
-No you cant just drop the full 2.2L long block with its current heads and think it will run. Plugs sensors and other bits are different, and because of that your ECU will go "No Sir I dont like it!"
-No your current intake manifold will not bolt right up to the 2.2L heads. The blot spacing is slightly different or if its a real old 2.2L intake mani bolt spacing is way off.
-??? I dont remember if there was a single port 2.2L or not and or what years they ran if so?? The exhaust "manifolds/bolt to flange patterns" are different, depending on if its a single port exhaust or dual port exhaust 2.2L they may not even bolt up at all.
-??? If its and old 2.2L its going to be a 4 bolt bell housing. Yes it will bolt up but you will have 2 extra holes on the trans with non in the motor side.

If your looking to just use the 2.2L bottom end and swap over your heads its a easy swap and basically like doing a head gasket job with new timing bits corresponding what ever heads you use.

Okay thank you!^^ ad the motor is from a 99 if that helps at all.

I actually have to rebuild my ej253 and was just going to swap motors out real quick. But I guess that's not really an option anymore

Also if its a turbo 2.2L the compression will be lower like 8.511 vs your current ???? I think 11:1

No it's just a sohc n/a motor.

So I have another question for you, will head ej22 heads work with the ej253 block?(I don't think they will work but, maybe?)

Yes they will work/bolt on, but depending on cretin things like I mentioned above the heads will need to have the 2.2L intake and exhaust manis swapped over to work. Along with all the sensors for the 2.2 stuff, and the need for the 2.2L harness and ECU.

So, your basically swapping backwards in power, efficiency and just wasting your all around time. Its a ton of work to swap a full harness, and it sounds like your not looking to keep the 2.2L after your 2.5L is rebuilt....??

The 2.2L head will be a big step backwards in flow/efficiency, due to the valves being way smaller then the 2.5i heads. The SOHC 2.5i heads flow better then WRX and most STi. On top of all that you would have to swap ECUs and the 2.2L ECU is not the same plug pattern as your current 2.5i ECU, so again its a harness swap dilemma.

If your looking to do it with the least amount of long term hassle/bug fixing/splicing and then maybe down the road retune. Juts put the 2.2L bottom end in with all of your current 2.5i bits and heads. The ECU will not even notice the difference in .3L for a daily driver. Or pull your current 2.5i motor strip it down and fix the bottom end, and just deal with being down a car for the 2-3 week to have a shop rebuild it.

If you have the money just get a used 2.5i long block and drop it in and your done. You should be able to source a used 2.5i motor with like 50-75k with all the accessories for $1500 if not $1000 and thats with probably a 90day 5k mile warranty

Okay thank you, that's what I was planning on doing I just wanted to see if it was worth my time, and I was probably just gonna toss the 2.2l after the build. So thanks once again!
