Default "Mazda 2014 CX-5 gets revved"

Quote:
Mazda engineers never stop improving. Case in point—the new 2.5L engine in the Touring and Grand Touring CX-5 models boasts a commanding 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque, and still retains a healthy 32 MPG hwy.
Now this puppy is finally competitive in terms of power.

Well this is certainly good news. Now the question is can the Touring and Grand Touring be had with a manual gearbox?

Not in the current model year -- which probably means, not in 2014 either, as they'll likely carry over the 2.0L with manual in the base version.

Maybe we'll find out tomorrow morning alongside the Mazda6 reveal is at 9:30 am PST.

I wouldn't call 184hp in an SUV "commanding".

I own one. Yes, it's hardly an SUV or commanding. . . I view it as a lifted AWD, compact hatchback with better interior dimensions.

In the summer my wife (who never hits the highway mind you) consistently got 28.5 - 29.0 mpg.

So, it's a fantastic family vehicle, and I still enjoy driving it.

This HP bump was smart. It'll take a relatively huge MPG impact but seeing Mazda respond so well to feedback this quickly is good. This car is their biggest hit since the original Mazda3 so they need to play it just right.

I wonder if Subaru will give the XV a few more horses since everyone cries about that also? I doubt.
