Running an 04 STi with P+L Headers, and an Invidia TBE.
Loud as hell. Expecting a kid, and the wife has pretty much laid down the law that my exhaust has to change (too loud). OK, I needed an excuse to buy more parts anyway. I've narrowed down what I believe my alternatives might be and was hoping for some input from guys with little kids on db's. What do I need to pick up that doesn't involve rolling everything (Downpipe, headers, exhaust) back to stock that is nice and quiet for a lil' baby, that is would pass a wife/mother test? Here are the options I was able to dig out of similar threads:
Also.... I HATE the way the Borla Hush looks. I have an 04 STi and twin tips just irritate the heck out of me. So the solution has to have a single tip. I'm leaning to Maddad but could be easily persuaded otherwise. Help. I have a limited time to get this taken care of. |

The STi axleback is the quietest. Source: I am running the STi axleback on my current green turbo setup.
People say the whisper may be quieter than the hush but both are noticeably louder than the STi axleback. |

I have the 3" catless N1 Race tbe and I have the same problem. Drones like a MF'er at cruising speeds.
Look into a Cobb cbe, that's what I was planning on doing. |

Ever think about doing an exhaust with a cut out? Not my cup of tea, it's an option.
I had a "jna" Coughcough eBay Coughcough exhaust on my last STI, pretty quiet at cruise, nice tone, loud at WFO. I loved it. It's a Cobb replica too. |

stock axle back or a prodrive would be my recomendation....or a 2.5" stromung for a bit louder over 3500 rpm

would'nt a sti axleback create a bottle neck considering he's going from3" piping to 2.5?
This depends on if you wanna keep the rumble or not, hands down I believe a SPT muffler is the quitest aftermarket one out there, and it keeps the rumble. STI muffler you won't hear the rumble unless ur standing right next to it outside. I had the same problem and just bought a SPT muffler off a 10 wrx sedan and just cut/welded to my own piping. Sounds great. |

Any Cobb style exhaust, my gf has a 18 month old and he has no problem sleeping in thr car
Then again he also liked it when it was open dp too ![]() |

2 resonators and a cat atleast somewhere, aftermarket exhaust parts like headers dp etc to be wrapped. all those helped in my situation. it sounds subtle and smooth, not loud at all esp at idle. boxer melody when i push it a bit
but i wont disagree about stock parts. the quietest method. oh wait...what about sound deadening strategy? dynamat for instance. |

My greddy evo 2 is great. Looks and sounds great. Still rumbly but quieter than most. 3 year old sleeps fine in the car

I had a Maddad Whisper before and now I have an STi catback.
The Maddad is one of the best sounding exhausts ever, and it's not loud at all. It's barely noticeable around town until you get on it. But when you get on it, it opens up and has a very, very nice tone. The STi catback is barely audible ever. You don't hear any exhaust note, just a "whomp whomp" from the boxer rumble. I would say this is too quiet. I regret getting replacing my Whisper with the STi catback. Also, the Whisper is very well-made. It could hang up in a museum. |

Running cobb TBE on my wagon. 0 drone. 1 happy three and half month daughter. But she'll sleep through anything anyways

cobb, maddad, stromung, greddy evo 2, and blitz nur spec RX are probably your quietest options if you want aftermarket. I've gone through every single one on your list.
