Default thought on this swap?

looking for another day rider and wondering what people thought about this as far as ease of the swap, questions to ask (eg: full harness swap vs splice and year engine from the wrx (as I understand it, the engine size 2.0+, rather than a particular year in which changed to a turbo on the wrx)?

- I've already got 2 Hayabusa's so "get an sti" isn't what I'm looking for, but thank you.

ps: I will update the rest of the information once I get my hands on the car.

The Post:
VERY CLEAN RS. I buy a lot of wrecked WRX Subarus. Once in a while I come a cross a low mile car I rebuild. I decided to do WRX Turbo Swap with this car. Complete Motor Swap, ALL Stock with the exception of the short ram intake. Just passed Smog. New Goodyear tires.
This is a salvage tittle car which had light front end damage. All safety and lighting systems working and inspected.
If you are looking for performance with low insurance costs this car is it.
65k original miles, asking $6k

- Thank you all!

edit: 04 motor (2.0) so it does have the turbo if I am not mistaken.
complete harness swap (check plus)
trans had 66k, engine swap was with 71k miles.
has put 1k miles post swap and hasn't heard or felt any hickups so far.
state inspected :-)

looking great so far - price seems reasonable too

that looks like a sweet deal, 6k isnt bad first thing you have to do though is a) wrx hood and scoop or b) front mount intercooler because that intercooler has to be getting mager heat soak with no hood scoop and sitting on top the engine. but as long as the swap was done right it should be a good dd my 2 cents

The guy installed a top mount intercooler in a hood with no hood-scoop, you think the work on the rest of the car is going to be that great?

He has driven 1K miles with that motor roasting under the hood? Yikes

6K$ on a salvage title seems kinda high for me, especially if you are on the hook for getting a proper hood.

Default good point

hmm, good point - I'll have to ask what he did for heat management... almost always I install extra radiator fans (be in motorcycle or car) and a manual flip switch. He took care to switch out plugs and clean up the top end (external or internal is unknown) so here's to hoping.

If he has some extra cooling for while he has been driving I'd say it's a good deal, otherwise i feel it's a toss-up (but tbh 1k miles isn't going to bother the engine one bit if it's heat soaked, I've seen a few sub's and the layout seems very spacious in regards to tubing and heat, and the first thing I do it test gaskets on an engine worked vehicle)...time to send some oil in for a test.

While I'm at it, what's a new clutch (no basket) and springs going to run me on average?

Edit: as for a hood, I can always just grab a cheap faux-scoop, cut open the hood and weld it on :-P

also think 6k salvaged title is high, I got my 04 sti back from totalled (myself) for 2250 in 08, didnt take more then a couple thousand to get back to good (w/smart used part fix'n & body/paint friend w good prices)

I sold my mint condition 02 wrx with clean title, sti: turbo, injectors, exhaust, and tune; in addition to many extras for $6500. That Top mount isnt cooling anything and the guy selling it sounds more like a business man than a mechanic. The best decision youll ever make is to walk away from that car and never look back.

Default k

simple enough - seemed too high for a swap with such little work to be done.

wow totally missed the salvaged title part so 6k is a little high then it should be around 4k. all in all its still not a bad deal for the right price and as long as you just want it for a daily and you don't plan on heavily modifying it, and you don't plan on framing the title its not bad. i say its worth consideration at least you should look at it then decide. if you get a bad feeling even the littlest then just walk away.
