Talking 02 Wrx ls1 build

Hello Nasioc members.. I been cruising threw countless build threads the past couple of day, and I finally decided to make one myself. Here's a some background information on my car. I have a 2002 wrx with roughly 104k on the body. I purchased the car with a blown 257 hybrid swap (damn oil pump failure) and a 20g. Once I purchased the vehicle a buddy and I took out the motor and rebuilt the entire thing. Once completed we installed everything back in the car and it ran perfect. Until the turbo blew two months later. When the turbo exploded it didn't harm the engine at all. So, I decide to "go big or go home" with my next set up. I purchased a Turbonetics 60 series rated for 650 horse. While working on the build number 2 in three months, I once again change my mind. I wanted something reliable and something off the wall at the same time. So, that leads us to my current winter project. I am current in the process of doing a LS1 conversion to my car.

Tearing down Block on first build

All the new shinny parts, including new cp pistons

First start up on the first build,

Apparently my friends uncle had no faith in us or one too many beers.

Here's the upgraded turbo I went with after the 20g blew

Upgraded Intercooler and clutch to handle the Hp

clutch master stage for 6 puck

I never finished this build so I have no first start up of the second build lol.

Alright Now it's time for build number three? Or should I say 2.5 because I never finished the other.

Ok, I purchased a ls1 complete drive train out of one of them dang ol chevys. The motor and trans only had 20k on it when I purchased it.

Here are a couple pictures of my current progress;

The new (sti swap) six speed

Don't mind the ls1 in the background. That's just my buddies, he's putting it in his 240SX

The new power plant

New willwood clutch master cylinder and 5 point sparco harnesses

New slotted rotors... Hopefully this thing will stop a little better now

Some more up to date seats

Motor mock up.... Pain in the asssssssss

Motor installed using fbody engine plates cut to fit

Clearance on the passenger said after some minor hammering with a sledge hammer...

I am currently working on the instillation of the new steering rack. We decided to go with a nissan 240sx steering rack. Why you ask? because it allows you to get more steering angle. Plus, it was a spare one laying around the shop.

That's my current location in build number 2.5. I will continue to update the thread when I finish something. The goal is to have this car running within a two months.

In for updates! I've always wanted to do the ls swap due to reliability. But never had the funds lol

So with the 240sx steering rack, are you gonna use 240sx lower control arms and tension rods?

Japspeed has and it gained them a ton of angle.

Price wise it's a very expensive build. "IF" you can't sell your old subie parts. The selling of the subie motor and trans covered the cost of my ls1 complete setup. Just all the little stuff is coming out of pocket and it adds up extremely fast.

My attentions were to use the 240 rack with after market inner and outer tie rods. Then apply some rack spacers on the inner rod. I'm not trying to go for extreme angle right now, do to not knowing the amount of angle clearance I will have.

The little things always cost the most! looking forward to the radiator mounting as well. Also what cluster are you gonna use, or you going to keep the stock one?

Yes, I'm going to attempt to keep the stock cluster. From the other swaps I've seen I should have no problem doing that. The radiator I had purchased is much to tall. So I'm in the process of looking for a buyer lol. I must have read the tape measure with my good eye haha.

Just picked up my oil pan from Chaz at nerp.

The pan was notched out because of clearance issues with the sway bar.
