Default How many of you are driving your cars in STOCK form?

When I purchased my car in June 2009, the plan was to keep it stock and not void any warranties, until I hit 60k and was out of warranty.

In the mean time, to satisfy my obsession with cars, I purchased a 1955 Chevy Bel Air and was in the process of modding/restoring it.

Then, Sandy came along and the wifey & I decided it was time to move (house was unharmed...but after Irene and Sandy, we just got tired of living in a flood-proned area and dealing with black-outs, etc...).

We purchased an old Victorian that needs to be restored, which meant restoring an old car would have to wait. The Chevy was 90% complete and ended up selling it for a little over 2 grand more than what I had into it. Not bad...

Now, I've noticed a trend going on in my head when I start thinking about modding my wrx again...

It seems like the only time I'm thinking of bigger turbos, coilovers, e85, etc etc...is when I'm bored at work and on NASIOC, or when I'm at Broken Motorsports and I see all kinds of projects all over Billy's shop. I get all into it and start searching craigslist and the classifieds on here for all kinds of stuff.

But then, the moment I'm in my car and actually driving and enjoying it, I realize how much I like it just the way it is. Nice & quiet, 110% reliable (never gave me any serious issues, ever), and I decide the last thing I want to do, is start F'ing with it, changing things, that then cause me to have to change other things...etc etc.

I don't know if this has to do with getting older (wiser?), or just tired of modding cars just to make them less reliable and eventually selling the car for THOUSANDS less than what I have into it or what. I think I've decided that if I ever feel the need to go faster, or want something nicer, I'll simply upgrade and get a used 911 or something.

So, just wondering how many people on here with WRX's, STI's or any other cars you had plans for, have simply left the car untouched?

Me!

Just kidding...

I think modding just slightly is OK, the commonly referenced Stage 2 is pretty reliable as it's just exhaust modification and a tune.

What defines "stock"

Many people have similar thoughts to you, but they purchase better tires, better brake pads, and K&N air filter

Hmmm..you're right- I should've been clearer on that.

I guess, bascially- not doing any mods that will clearly void your warranty.

Going stage 1/2, upgrading brakes, tires "may" void your car's warranty or it may not. I guess it depends on the dealer and the issue/problem involved.

I'm talking about mods that will make your dealer laugh in your face when you ask about a warranty issue.

it took me 30 minutes to start modding my 2011 when i got it. drove it home and had a kartboy short shifter and bushings waiting for me. i didn't even have all the plastic off the interior yet.

BUT, i can say this car has held its value far superior to anything i've owned. i see used 2011 wrxs go for more than i paid with more miles than my car. that being said, i didn't buy my car as an investment. i bought it to drive it and enjoy it. i like modding. that thrill of installing the mod with the benefit just around the corner, nothing better.

Bone stock 1995 Impreza L Coupe with 387k miles. And when I say bone stock I mean bone stock right down to the factory radio still. It will have an STI swap in a few months though

The only mod I have in mine right now is a SPT STS and Kartboy Bushings.

I put some Wet Okole seat covers in there as well, but those aren't really a "mod"

On my last Subaru...an 08 LGT, I bought a set of rotas with tires and a set of 07 WRX wheels to put snows on. Other than that, oil, filters, gas. Spark plugs and air filter ever 30k. Sold it at 91k. Being stock always was a key selling feature.

I recently picked up an 07 WRX with an STi 6 speed, stage 2, wheels, fmic etc. It's already been detuned back to stock levels and the crap that was added to it over the years, besides the suspension and 6 speed are all going to be replaced with stock components. Oh....the car is going to be for my son to drive.

I have mostly OEM parts aside from my shifter bushings, short throw shifter, endlinks and uh...my OEM but not stock 19 mm rear swaybar from the STi. And mudflaps. And OEM post-purchase foglights. SPT exhaust...soon!

After getting really into my last car's suspension with adjustable stuts, springs, strutbars, swaybars... then brakes, pads, rotors, exhaust, etc.. all on a little '98 OBS.

Then I bought a WRX and said I'd keep it stock-ish. And now I have a stage 2 WRX with some suspension mods, just not struts/springs yet, and stock brakes.

I plan on doing other suspension and brakes this spring.

... save your money, have an IRA, and all that jazz, but also spend some money on yourself... or your car in this case... ha.

I'm mostly stock on my bug eye. Short throw, pitch stop, and bigger rear sway bar. Will be ordering my exhaust and accessport shortly though.

Also, picks of the Chevy? I learned a ton from my grandpa when I was little while he was messing around with his '52. I want one of my own so bad.

Bone stock for a year and a half on my 2011 wrx. Did put on taillight overlays. But then again I'm 32 and have been modding cars for the past 12 years.

You should know better than to be driving stock. Shame on you

Not that I care... I just think its funny that I start this thread to see who is driving a stock car, and yet 95% of the responses are from people with a list of mods.
