Default gas smell

Hi so i've been getting a faint whiff of gas every once in a while. The car runs smoothly and idles nice. the smell is strongest inside the cabin. When i step out of the car i dont smell anything and i when pop the hood, no gas smell either. Where is this gas smell coming from?

Does it only happen in cold weather (30 or below)? I had a gas leak issue in my 02 wrx in temps below 25. Turns out my year had a recall where a rubber fuel line under the intake manifold shrank in cold weather causing gas to leak onto the block. I was getting 14 mpg babying it! The gas leak was right near the turbo inlet pipe. I would try looking around there.

Do you have a stock or aftermarket exhaust? Could be an exhaust leak under the car seeping in.

i know being catless it will smell like that but im not sure if im catless or not. The last time i looked at the downpipe it said subaru on it so im assuming everything down there is stock but ill have to take a closer look. but i heard wrx have like 3 cars. Will having only 1 or 2 out of 3 cats make your car smell?

Your wrx only has one from factory. You might have an exhaust leak under the body somewhere.

for me it was a recall issue, fuel line would leak small amounts, mainly when very cold (winter)

That's only for the 2nd Gen USDM.

Is it recent or been there since you got it?

Replace your gas cap.

This should fix your issue. And it cost like 10 bucks
