Checking to see if anyone has heard any rumors about changes to the 2014 model year? Anything like changes or additions to colors, trims, options or packages.

I'm mulling over the idea of trading in my 2012 Impreza sport premium for an XV. I wanted to see if there was anything worth waiting for instead of just buying a '13 already on the lot.

Nothing I've read in the car magazines has suggested any meaningful changes in store for the 2014 Impreza or XV.

I have a 2012 Impreza Sport.
The big change for 2014 is the hybrid XV. Info on that is limited but out there if you look on Google. I'm glad I didn't get a 2013 XV since I want the hybrid now.

I believe that there is two new blues for 2014 and that's it.

I don't know about any new blues but there is that Eco Green on the hybrid. Not a fan though as it looks like one could get tired of it quickly like that Tangerine that the XV debuted in. One new color I like is that Tungsten on the Outbacks.

Do you have a link to a web page that shows what these new colors look like?

I'm not sure why someone who likes the Impreza would hate the XV. They're basically the same car.

The XV wasn't available yet when I bought my Impreza, but even if it was, I would have chosen the Impreza. I prefer cars with a lower center of gravity, and I feel that Subaru tacks an extra $2k onto the XV's price without providing anything more than the lift and body plastics that give it a more rugged appearance. Clearly there's more profit for Subaru in the XV than there is in the Impreza. That's fine with me, as I want Subaru to be successful. So if the market for the XV will pay $2k more for inexpensive cosmetic changes, so be it.

The XV Hybrid might be a legitimate reason to choose an XV, if the fuel economy improvement justifies the higher price it will command. But again, if Subaru ever introduced an Impreza Hybrid (I don't see why they couldn't; they'll already have the R&D work done from the XV Hybrid), I'd choose that model over the XV Hybrid.

But regardless of all that, I don't hate the XV. It's too close to the Impreza I like to hate it. I just wouldn't choose to buy one over an Impreza.

IMHO.

Don't want to argue cause it's really a personal preference thing - I bought the Impreza Sport in spring 2012 cause the XV wasn't available. Since then I'm glad I waited and can get the hybrid version in the Spring.
The XV does bring a number of upgrades to the Sport.
Higher suspension means not having to drop into the car or pull yourself out of it. Also better snow clearance in winter
Bigger front disk brakes and stiffer body that is approved for towing.
Factory tinted dark glass and backup camera in limited models.

I wasn't going to trade in just for that but when you add in the hybrid with
13HP boost from the electric motor for acceleration at lights and passing. Start stop function to save gas. Suspension improvements with turn signals in the mirrors. Blue lighting for instrumentation. Better looking wheels. Ability to run on electric power if you run out of gas - maybe 5-10 miles at 20mph? Improved sound insulation and improved gas mileage over the 2013 XV. Well then that sounds interesting to me.
The actuall gas mileage may not be more than the impreza sport has but it will definitely be a better all round package.

the price difference between the Impreza Sport and XV is $1300 iirc.
and for that you get a well rounded package of upgrades such as suspension, brakes, cooling, gearing, towing capacity, plus all the trim amd doodads. 1300 is how much extra I paid to upgrade from a base impreza to a premium. So I don't think that the xv is quite the plastic aesthetic package you are imagining.
When I drive down dirt "roads" that $1300 is well worth it.
lol did I mention it comes with foglights??

So you have a 5sp XV now and used to have an Impreza CVT? What is the difference in mpg?

Yes, I agree that the Hybrid seems to offer a lot of new enhancements. My comments were toward the non-Hybrid XV vs. the Impreza.

None of the non-hybrid XV improvements affect me. I don't mind dropping myself into the car or pulling myself out of it; I prefer the handling dynamics of a lower car. I drove my Impreza in deep Adirondack snow last winter, and it was a beast, so I don't feel I need more snow clearance (having snow tires helps in that regard). I don't need to tow. And I passed on the Limited model because I won't give up the manual tranny, so the back-up camera is out for me.

plus an increased coolant capacity from the forester radiator.
plus roof rails, fatter front sway bar, extra welds on the unibody.
It is definitely more than just a "lifted impreza with plastics".
But I promise you that just because someone likes a regular impreza is no guarantee they will like an XV.

The main area of concearn would be mpg's. Can you live with 3mpg less?
And it definitely has the underpowered feeling that the Impreza has.
Im not at all trying to talk Jrobb outta the XV- I just know from his many posts that around 200 hp would probably be something he'd prefer, and if he uses the xv for work and puts lots of miles on it that 3mpg difference could be a deterrent.
For the record- I love my XV infinitely more than my Impreza.

I'm pretty sure the hybrid will not have the manual tranny as an option.
I'm not sure what those custom seats will look like either. If they are two tone I sure hope they don't try to match the green color. Because of the extra weight and extra drag from the 8 inch clearance the MPG for highway driving may not beat the sport but for city it should score better MPG by a good margin.

Did you consider buying a 2014 Forester instead of the XV?

yeah I did but it doesnt quite drive like the XV.
Plus the XV came equipped exactly like I wanted for the price I wanted to pay.
I did consider the Forester for sure though. Just felt too geriatric. I live right by The Villages

The 2.0 XT doesn't sound too geriatric!

If I weren't 100% set on only buying hatches, I would have definitely considered the Legacy. That 6mt and 2.5 plus the great mpg's sounds like a great all around package. I just don't care for sedans.
