Default 2015 Subaru WRX Video Review

2015 Subaru WRX First Drive Video Review
Watch the full video!

Ryan drives the brand-new for 2015 Subaru WRX. Can this new model live up to its heritage? The new WRX is powered by a new 2.0-L flat-four with a twin-scroll turbo making 268hp and 258 lb-ft peak powering all four wheels thanks to Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system (50:50 in the 6MT, 45:55 variable in the CVT.) Pricing was not announced at the time of the review, but we expect it will be close to the outgoing models. Watch it now.

Still don't like the styling. I also shouldn't have to change the head unit out on a brand new car. C'mon Subaru.

trademark subaru rumble gone
i'd rather have the sound than the little bit of gain in performance

That is what gets me about this car so far. If I didn't already enjoy my car so far as is (ill mod it eventually), I could look past the exhaust note but part of the joy of my car is the exhaust note. It gives me a smile every morning when I leave for work.

It's as if the only thing making this car incomplete is the lack of boxer rumble. other than that it is a much improved package minus those fat boy seats. thought the seats on my car were bad.

That review might have been done by a soccer dad and he had about as much enthusiasm as an enema salesman. It was almost as if he knew the car was **** and was forcing himself to like the car to keep his paycheck. I think this was a big mistake on Subaru's part. The body is like a Camry, the interior like a Prius, the performance like a minivan,... and the handling? Subaru's have been known for their handling for a LOOOONG time. To try and compare it to a Porsche when you're driving on straight, flat roads should make anyone suspicious of the guy's honesty. I'd like to keep believing in Subaru's ability to make good, fun, and worthwhile cars, but this model looks half cooked to me. I'll wait for the STI to come out and pray for a bigger turbo.

If making it bland (looking and sounding) is supposed to get my $$'s it didn't work. I want my WRXs and STIs to be hooligan cars, no matter how much coin I make. I too am curious to see how the STI looks/sounds/performs, hopefully something more wild.

Really? Since when? Mine handles like crap. Gotta drop almost 2 grand in suspension upgrades to get it to handle properly.

Actually, I think the unibody IS a Camry. We'll have to post some pics and see if the a-pillars, windshield, and other shapes look the same. Since Toyota owns a decent chunk of Subaru and seems to be guiding some of their new developments, I expected this.

Overall it looks to be the size of a Legacy GT. Great for a family man but not quite the same niche as the old cars.

I think what he meant that they have been known to make a false sense of handling and confidence from their awd system. The only one you could argue that handled well would be the Sti but at least in the us always falls short to the evo.

They own 16% I wouldn't call that a "decent chunk".

ok...the car is what it is, BUT why not put a real driver behind the wheel for the test drive?! This guy is going 40mph around sweepers and saying the car corners...well a camry would likely give the same effect at those speeds! sorry if I come off sounding extra critical. bad review, don't make any decisions based on this drive.

The '15 WRX is not immediately stunning like the concept but it's really only one or two mods away from being gorgeous. Lower it on some bigger wheels and then start tuning. I will be getting a red one with the CVT.

Tell me that's not sexy... The only WRX body style that cannot be saved is the '08 jelly bean.

It actually doesn't look bad as a coupe. I had no idea Subaru was releasing a coupe version. You'd think they'd focus on a hatch more.

Good luck tuning big power with that CVT its great for stock power but runs out of usefulness around 350-380hp

Aftermarket will have you covered. If they made them for the BRZ (which I love btw) then I would be shocked if they didn't make them for the WRX.

Did he say 0-60 in 6 seconds for the CVT?

That piece of plastic does need to go. It seems nice overall, but a little too techy for me. I'll keep my 2013. Things I wish I had from this car: 1. D shaped steering wheel (which I can get myself), 2. Black headliner (can be done, but a pain in the ass), 3. 5X114.3 bolt pattern to get STI wheels.

Yep... 6.0 seconds, I drove a CVT in my old car and hated it - of course this a different animal, but adding nearly an entire second on to 0-60 is a big difference. I agree with the 114 bolt pattern though, that would be nice but not a huge deal.

I'm also not much of a fan of the faux carbon fiber interior trim, but that's whatever. Don't care for the look of the info screen cluster either, the boost gauge hardly looks any better than Torque pro on my phone lol.

I am however, really looking forward to trying out the new 6MT, is it entirely new or from another car?

I'm also really looking forward to seeing what the aftermarket guys and tuners are able to pull out of the new DI motor, should be pretty sweet.

I'll stick with my '14 (of course I just got it), but I want to wait couple years for them to work out any kinks, and make any tweaks they may need to do. Also the aftermarket will be established for the new drivetrain by then.

Plus, by then I'll be making grown-up money so maybe I'll just go to an STI.

The new WRX already has the 5x114 pattern, so, technically, you could use the STI wheels. Though, I don't know much about the applicable offests

I AGREE WITH ALL OF THAT ^^^ The bolt pattern on our stock 2013s kills me

Can I request a death-race version/set of options???.... I want the obvious bullet proof glass and Kevlar door panels with a turret mounted, belt fed .50 cal, with endless supply of tattooed Asian/Latina gunners (I think honda may be able to help soobee with this, they have a robot right?)... then I want the obvious "Spy-Hunter" mods like oil slick and smoke screen.... I think all car "test drives" should include some kind of actual shootout and crash and keep driving test to show the true durability with run flat tires etc... Its just not "real-world" with this 0-60 and 1/4 mile BS....

Its monday... I have no jobs lined up and I'm bored... My apologies... I shall move on and pollute another thread now....

They should have stayed as close to the concept as possible. This steamy pile can stay in the showroom and out of my garage. "Departure from the Impreza" my ass... nice marketing ploy.
