Thumbs up Track Day - Sears/Infineon

Kudos to Ken Lewis for pulling this weekend together and for his many hours on the line with NASA. Bruce and Co. from Subaru Santa Cruz were on hand as well with caps, shirts and hundreds of dollars worth of raffle prizes.

I had a great time and enjoyed meeting many other Subaru owners. Looking forward to continuing the tradition of "sponsored" track days. (I believe this has been our third, each at a different track!)

Ken: how do I get a copy of the video of our final session?

Gary Sheehan drove a terrific USTCC race withstanding tremendous pressure from the BMW driver (Hutto) until the last lap when Hutto got by him in turn seven. They both agreed it was their best race this season. Just wait 'til next year.

dude that was SO much fun. You guys have all got to go try it. my 2nd session out was by far the best, I gridded right behind 3 fast ass cars who took really sweet lines (they were HPDE group 2, and that was my last group 1 session) I followed them for the entire session - it was SO SO sweet. I had an awesome time! I'm so totally going next time NASA comes to Infineon. Huge Kudos to Ken, Kern, Charlie and Bruce etc for all the work they went to today.

Yes, a great weekend at that! Thanks to you all for putting it together and showing up. That was a great last session. I kept on missing you guys when we gridded up. The last session I finally joined y'all. We should keep with that.
Ken-I'm interested in the video as well...and do you still have the footage from Nov 10th?
Great meeting everyone!

I'll add my Thank You's! to WRXKEN, and Bruce & company from Santa Cruz Subaru (great shirts & prizes), and the NASA folks. Thanks also to Eric, & Ken Levin for introducing yourselves. Jeff & Anissa and the 3S group put on a yummy barbecue on Sat. night also. It was a great experience, and I already want to do it again!

The last run group when we all went out together on the track was a really fun way to finish a great weekend. I learned alot, from Ken Lewis & some of the NASA instructors who have a wealth of wisdom to share.

I'll be watching for another event, and if timing permits you'll see me again! I strongly encourage other Subaru drivers to come join in the fun.

-Debbie from Nevada (blue WRX wagon #22, group 3).

I was the only guy with 2K Legacy. It was a great event. I missed the last session (1&2) since I was watching the race and post race event.

Hey Ken, thanks for the encouragement too. And again, I wouldn't have been there if not for the original post you had earlier this year, getting the word out & talking it up, and working with Subaru of Santa Cruz to get the Subaru dealer presence out there.

btw, I had lots of comments about wrx's from others at the event , about the wrx being one of the fastest cars on the track (though I know the drivers' skills is a large factor too), and what a great car they are to drive, etc. etc. etc. Maybe our showing them off helps to sell more ... I know I did that in Reno ...

Ken, by the way, what did you think of the Kuhmo's, do you like them?

Yep. I don't know if this is what you were referring to, but Sun. morning the group 3 leader (Chris) announced how much fun it was to ride in a wrx on Sat, how impressed he was with every facet of the car: speed, handling, smoothness, etc. He gave us mad props.

Ken -
Not sure which is their 'main' page, but this is the one used for several years now:

http://www.norcalaudiclub.org/

And this one has their upcoming events (as Dean mentioned, the Audi club has Feb. 1-2 @LS.)
http://www.norcalquattroclub.org

On the Kuhmo's - my first set lasted me through 18 autoXs & a track event at Spring Mtn in Pahrump, April thru Oct. Not bad! I had them flipped midway through the season. People who saw them commented about how they were chunking (I ran them at 37/33 for most autox) but they held up for the level of driving I was doing. Of course, at Sears Pt. I pushed them much harder, and hope to be doing more track events this winter/spring, so I don't expect to get that length of wear with this set.

dknv-I think I talked to you Sat afternoon re: tire pressure. I am also on the V700's and usually run them around 45/41 hot. For the last session on Sun, I ran them at 40/41 hot at the suggestion of Ken. I believe you said the you have a pyrometer...where does that say to put the tire pressure at? My friends and I seem to feel that these tires work their best near max psi. What's you feeling for track (not autocross) psi?
Also, do you find that the middle tread section wears out faster than the outside and the inside? I think Ken has noticed this as well.
Thanks.

Hi Rallytime -
I don't have a pyrometer, but I think my BF Dean brought one. I should've check the temps, but didn't. For the track, I started in the mornings at 39/37, by end of day they were at about 43/41 at end of session. They felt fine to me all day. I'm still experimenting though. I haven't noticed wear in the middle, because I run the pressures lower for AutoX, and scrub the outside edges pretty good. And had them flipped inside out after several events.
What car # were you?

I was #12, with the gold rims. Parked down the isle from you next to my friend in the red '70 911.
Maybe I talked to Dean re: the tires.

That was a fun last session. Anyone have their lap times?

Got it!
A couple of other drivers in group 3 were wondering if that was me (#22) passing them, but it was you (#12). You fly on that course. One day, maybe I can line up behind you & try to follow your line (thru maybe the first 2 turns before you lose me).
The gold rims look really nice.
Ever do a track event in the rain on your stock tires?

Definitely. I'd be happy to do the first two laps with ya. I had an instructor sit with me on the second session on Sat and that helped tremendously. The 2003 schedule is not up yet but I will let you know my next event.
I have not done a track day on the stock tires. The Nov 10th track day had one session in the rain but I kept my V700's on. I made the huge mistake of not decreasing my tire pressure. I spun in 8A and went into the mud...but I continued right through it when others got stuck.

That's really nice, thanks! When I said I'd try to keep up until about the 2nd turn, I was referring to turn 2, not 2 laps. You're too fast for me! Maybe warmup laps, so I don't slow you down when you're ready to really kick it into gear & go.

Does anyone know how to get word to Chris, the group 3 leader? I realized after I left that he was going to ride with me on that last run group, and was going to look for me on grid. But then when we lined up separately I don't know that he would've been looking over to the side. I want to pass along my apologies if he was waiting for me.
