Default Nokian Hakkapeliitta Q Winter Tires

After having just about slammed my WRX sideways into a curb on ice I thought it was time to get winter tires.

I have had these Nokian tires now for a month and I am really pleased. In snow or on packed snow if you turn the wheel, the car goes where you point, not like with the stock RE92s. On ice they are WAAAAYYYYYY (emphasis on WAY) than the stock tires. They supposedly aren't as good as Blizzaks on ice, but I am not complaining. Oh ya, they are really good on gravel too, but they will wear out a lot faster this way.

On dry pavement they are not as grippy as the RE92s. Breaking distance on dry pavement will increase over the stock tires (still pretty good breaking, though). The sidewalls are not as stiff and the tires sound like a rubber inner tube (go figure) when they kick up small rocks.

Like all tires that fit on the stock WRX rims, these do not come cheap. I paid around $900 Canadian for the 4 tires and install, but they were only $550 after tax and the trade in for my used RE92s.

I used to be a HUGE fan of Michelin Arctic Alpins, but after using these tires in winter I wouldn't go back. I just wish there was more snow up here to use them on (it melted too fast).

holy crap you guys.....where the hell do you get these tires?? and those are on the stock 16" wheels

i have Nokian Hakkapeliitta NRW's 195/65 Q15 and i only paid $524 for the tires, install, etc. THese tires were just a few bucks cheaper than the hakka Q's too. I cant see spending that much on tires......again where do you get these??? cause the price seems very high.

BTW i got mine at Kaltire

I got mine at Kaltire as well. They were $550 after trading in the stock ones. I had them installed on the stock rims, which aren't a common size.

I have the Hakka Qs on the stock rims as well. Very good extreme snow tires. The only warning I'd offer is braking on dry surface. Because the sidewalls are so soft and the treadblocks so tall and siped, hard braking on a dry surface will result in serious squirming. The tires will sqirm then the car will wag about the axis it you brake hard as in an emergency maneuver. Leave yourself extra room.

So true. These are definitely NOT dry pavement tires. They work well on cold pavement, but they work AMAZINGLY on snow and great on ice.

We won't have any dry pavement till April. The tires are worth it in my opinion but any snow tire for the winter would be better than the re92's.
