Post Going to install the HKS Sport Exhaust ...

... and I have a few questions:

1) Gaskets: I only have one, where should I use it? I might just recycle the OE one that's between the midpipe and muffler
2) did a preliminary check on the bolts and stuff, they seem pretty siezed from the heat, so I gave it a shot of liquid wrench (a WD-40 type substance). any other things I should note of?
3) anybody want pictures?

The only gasket goes between the muffler and the midpipe. The stock setup is the same way. I gave my bolts a squirt with WD40 & they came right off a few minutes later.

only complaint so far: it looks stupid sitting on the floor. oh, that and some of the grey coating was scratched off in a few spots, but it'll get scratched by rocks eventually. :T

kaminari- Congrats on the new exhaust. I'm curious as to how it sounds? Can you compare to an N1? I'm mainly interested in how loud (or lack there of) and how deep it is.

I was actually surprised at how quiet the N1 is. I don't know if that's the case for everyone with the N1, but it was real quiet.

Leonardo- You had posted in the past you were considering holding a group buy on this exhaust. Are you still considering it?

no clue what an N1 sounds like, and I didn't get a chance to do it yet. My dad was going to give me a hand, but he's slacking. So it goes in tomorrow morning. At least I really hope it does, I want it in before the track day at Laguna Seca on Saturday.

oh, I know that BRN2RLY has an Apex'i N1, and I'm supposed to meet him one of these days, so I'll compare my exhaust to his (when I do meet him) and get back to you on the sound.

was supposed to happen thursday morning, but rotating my dad's tires took longer than expected.

then we said "we'll do it friday morning"
but then thursday night started raining... =(

but now it stopped off so i crammed myself under the car and installed it myself... no jacks. man that wasn't fun.

but i feel lots better now that it's in.

the car's sitting there w/ the battery disconnected (ECU reset). I'm going to take a shower, reconnect the battery and go driving. will report back in awhile.

Well, I'm off to it!

Damn that's loud!

no real testing done, but I think I'm gonna have to cruise around in neutral more often around my town, and especially around fremont (grr...)

but other than that, it's great.

will do more pushing on it later.

one complaint: it taps against the rear diff protector, so i heard this very gentle tap at idle. easy enough to fix, take it to a shop or a welder or a metalworker to make a cut in the diff protector.

hey leo...

where's your resonator (the thing that looks like a mini-muffler... a bulge in the pipe) on the mid-pipe? towards the front or the rear of the car?

I always thought it went to the front, but mine's in the rear... damndest thing.

what's that? is it a "test pipe" ? (pipe that replaces the cat... so it's headers, test pipe, mid pipe, exhaust ?

interesting... so it does have a cat? just a higher flow cat?

where'd you get it from?

[edit]if you're going large flow turbo, you might want to look into the HKS turbo exhaust, supposedly it's identical to the sport but tuned for a turbo'd car... bigger pipe and a muffler with different internals, but supposedly the same shape/sound (not positive on the sound).[/edit]

I'll look into it!

I love my exhaust!

I wonder if turbo exhaust is going to flow THAT much better.
